I am of the view that any house Republican who claims to be moderate should leave the party rather than let #Jan6 #insurgents control the agenda.
I don't know what the chances of this happening is, but I have to hope that some still care about #democracy.
@Clint I think fearful ceding of power to extreme / extremely-monied interests is what got us here. In the many districts where progressive, humancentric policies win, the national DP must start backing progressive candidacies in primaries, thus win, bringing Dems back from the place they've occupied since Bush Sr., that previously held by middle-right Republicans. A vigorous 'Left' is crucial, but Pelosi/rightwing Dems supplanted the moderates. A new left is needed to return them.

I think you are absolutely correct. I am struggling to understand how our institutions have failed and what can be done. A new left sounds like a good plan.

Yes, we need to bring the lib/mod party back to traditional progressive values of working people, with a modern, realist approach — and not just with rhetoric (i.e., deliberately doomed legislation) but with boots-on-the-ground, grassroots, organization & mobilization starting in our own towns.

Also I think the Citizen's United decision was a disaster for our system. I've just read "Hiding in Plain Sight" by Sarah Kendzior and am coming to grips with what she is saying. We definitely need to root out the monied interests from the Democratic party if we want our country back. Based on what happened in New York State the moderate Dems are just as hostile to progressives as the right wing is.
