National Press ClubNPC Headliners Book Event: “Den of Spies,” Craig UngerNew York Times bestselling author Craig Unger will discuss his new book, “Den of Spies: Reagan, Carter, and the Secret History of the Treason That Stole the White House” at a National Press Club Headliners book event on Tuesday, Oct. 22 at 6 p.m. Unger, who formerly served as editor in chief of Boston Magazine and contributing editor for Vanity Fair, examines the 1980 presidential election and accusations that the Reagan campaign interfered with the Carter administration’s efforts to free 52 American hostages held in Iran. Unger’s 30-year pursuit of the story behind the 1980 “October Surprise” culminates in this work, which was published on October 1,.2024, President Carter’s 100th birthday.
