We lose our democracy in the latter case, too, even if Dems manage to wrest back control.
@xankarn @davetroy There is no alternative. Their unreality machine views our "reality" as a hallucination. Sticking to what we consider to be "the truth" won't accomplish anything that ramping up our own lies would accomplish. Also, there is no "democracy" to save. That horse left the barn ages ago.
There may not be a path back to power right now or obvious avenues for effective political resistance, but “no alternative” isn’t something I accept. Defense of truth is meaningful work, imo. See, e.g., Vaclav Havel, “Power of the Powerless.”

There's absolutely no reason to lie about anything.
It isn't whether or not we tell the truth, it's how we go about doing so.
We need to do it in a way that puts our values front and center, very clearly names the villain and what they're doing, using scapegoating to divide us, to prevent us from coming together to elet people who will represent us not rule over us.

I don't think many western democracies have a left vs right democracy anymore, because the left faction has been progressively watered down since the 1980s.
What we have now is economically liberal right vs economically liberal centrist, with what used to be left-wing pushed off the spectrum.
And I was just listening to the PDF of "The Soviet Theory of Reflexive Control in Historical and Psychocultural Perspective" on the commute yesterday!

If higher degree of reflection conveys advantage, then those most skilled at thinking about what others are thinking, and skilled at manipulation of others' thoughts, make prime assets and agents.
Everyone who fits that.
@davetroy I've often said that the political framework of right and left is a 20th century construct. The fundamental goal posts of society have moved well beyond what 19th and 20th century thinkers could have envisioned. Unfortunately everyone pondering political theory hasn't bothered to move beyond the old paradigms and we're all about to get forcefully awakened from that sleepwalk.

I thought the same thing when I heard pundits dumping on Schumer: if the govt shuts down, they have no incentive to reopen it. The oligarchs will try to take over, offering a privatized version of key public services. And there will be other ideas and it will all be chaos.
But it doesn't have to be a choice between greed or destruction. There's no reason they can't loot the place as they destroy it.

We’re sick of rich old bitch boys like him looking smug while doing nothing during the fleeting moments they have power, only to cede it the moment they get shaken. Even if his logic matched what you said, he isn’t doing anything to explain it adequately or rebut his traitorous image. All-around fail.
