"Wisconsin Republicans have enjoyed outsize control of the Legislature in one of the most closely divided states for a dozen years. Maintaining that power is now at the heart of a drama involving the state Supreme Court that has national political implications."
~ Scott Bauer and David A. Lieb
"A new liberal tilt to the court is driving Republican fears of losing their large legislative majorities, which were built under some of the most gerrymandered political maps in the country."
@wdlindsy I look across the border at Wisconsin and shake my head. Serves us in Minnesota a warning: this is what happens if we get complacent! The GOP has truly abandoned democracy and really provided Wisconsinites with nothing in return.
@FaeryQueene73 Yes, and what's appalling to a lot of us who remember the really significant progressive tradition in Wisconsin before the Koch brothers bought it as their playground find what's going on in Wisconsin incomprehensible, given the state's history and legacy of progressive politics.
@wdlindsy Plenty of Minnesotans spilling across the border into rural western Wisconsin - including my former boss and her husband - maybe they can help turn things around.
@FaeryQueene73 I hope so. I have a personal connection to these stories in that I'm married to a Minnesotan — together now 50+ years — and some of his family roots lay in Wisconsin prior to the family's move to Wisconsin. States with a fascinating political history, and in the case of his family in this generation, these are right-wing Catholic Minnesotans who are bitterly opposed to the Democratic party.
@wdlindsy yup, because of project redmap
@MadisonMonkey Yes, that's right.
