Oliver Willis thinks Harris is doing just fine not catering to press demands for interviews:
"Harris did not need to cater to media whims to launch her campaign and rocket ahead of Trump in opinion polling. In fact, the dominant mindset among the media hivemind before she took over for President Joe Biden was that she likely wouldn’t have been able to handle the baton if it was handed to her."

"That has clearly turned out to be false, and Harris has been able to seize the momentum not thanks to the press, but from the people. ...
Frankly, the relationship between Trump and the press, which follows in the footsteps of the relationship George W. Bush and Dick Cheney had with many of the same outlets, shows that you can just wait them out."
"Like a toddler who has a tantrum, let them complain and bellow and fume, and then they will lose interest. They are attracted to shiny, loud objects, not substance, and by generating her own heat, Harris can do what’s best for the people, not the elites who ultimately do not care about our well-being at all."
"Instead of the VP sitting down with legacy media, she has taken her message of a forward-thinking, joyful America directly to the people. ... Rather than have her every move scrutinized by the corporate media vultures who NEED her to sell their stories, she is cutting out the unnecessary middle people and going directly to the voter."

"Given their latest circus coverage of Trump at Mar-a-Lago, it doesn’t seem possible to teach these old dogs new tricks while they’re too busy jumping through hoops for MAGA."
"What, exactly, were Trump and his inner circle thinking when they tapped Vance as Trump’s running mate in the face of more than 270 pages of adverse intra-campaign analysis? The New York Times, Politico, and The Washington Post have apparently all decided that it’s their solemn civic mandate to ensure that we’ll never know."

"As usual, Trump, Vance, and their moneyed right-wing enablers are sneering all the way to the bank—and possibly the White House."
"The NYT is really at its worst in this year’s campaign cycle, to the point that I’m a bit at a loss to imagine what’s going on in the newsroom. Their behavior is so programmatic that I have to think they’re consciously pursuing an obsessive, almost lunatic version of 'balance' in their coverage of both presidential campaigns."

"It’s so over the top and calculated that it ends up feeling less like news coverage and more like an attempt to be a third side....
Today’s piece on why Harris is wrong that inflation has anything to do with price gouging is a good example of what this drive is doing to the clarity and structure of NYT news analysis."
As Chomsky told us decades ago it is the function of the mainstream media to manufacture consent for the ruling class.
You might think that the ruling class would see an existential danger in a second Trump presidency but apparently they are fine with their anticipated finances under fascism.
@Dave_Goldsmith Well-noted and valuable commentary. Chomsky was right.
@wdlindsy Just catching up ...and I am at loss of words. JFC

@wdlindsy Thanks. I was wondering about the spike in boosts
Today they had a piece similar but even worse than this one .
As a journalist I would feel eternal shame ...
@hope_n_beauty The fact that so many of them seem oblivious to shame when they're behaving so shamelesslly tells us much, doesn't it?
almost as if they are following a flawed set of rules or algorithm, with no human over-ride? :)
@paul_ipv6 A good point — and stated in a way that wouldn't have occurred to me but seems very apt and thought-provoking.
@wdlindsy I think the more likely explanation is NYT's profit-seeking: more money to be made if the election is too close to call, so they'll keep boosting Trump while shitposting on VP Harris.
@jimv Yes, that makes sense to me.
@hope_n_beauty Absolutely!
