"The National Weather Service is a government success story. … For about $4 a year, we get the best scientists in the world watching a staggering number of weather events each year. Tens of thousands of thunderstorms, 5,000 floods, 1,300 tornadoes, hurricanes, droughts and an increasing number of wildfires. Their work makes it safe to fly."

"Their work informs farmers when to plant and harvest. Their work determines when to sound tornado alarms and when to evacuate from the path of a hurricane. That all adds up to more than 3 billion weather forecasts a year. Now, as the tornado season starts and the hurricane season near, none of that seems to matter to the ideologues in charge. But it certainly should."

"A huge percent– ultimately all of us--in this country are impacted by the destruction of a functional federal government and the attack on a whole lot of stuff we love and need, from reliable weather reports to public health to science research to sane international relations."

"In a way, Trump and Musk may be building the broadest coalitions this country has ever seen, or at least giving us the basis for such coalitions by injuring and outraging almost everyone."

I like Rebecca Solnit's hopeful outlook about the broad-based coalition Musk-Trump may be building in response to their destruction of, well, everything. But note this report and the obstacles we Americans are up against as we hope for people to see, understand, and come to their senses about what's going on.
Jonathan Shorman reports on Kelli McGlothlin's recent firing as an IRS employee.

As Shorman reports, Kelli McGlothlin of St. Joseph, Missouri, voted for Trump.
She now finds herself out of a job with the IRS due to Trump-Musk's gutting of the federal government. She's furious.
But does she regret her Trump vote? Apparently not.
Musk did this to her, she says. Not Trump.
Though Musk wouldn't be rampaging through the federal government WITHOUT TRUMP standing right with him, giving him free rein.

We're up against great density, great thick-headedness, in trying to salvage this democracy, when so many voters are just so lamentably ill-informed and unwilling to take pains to inform themselves.

As Jess Piper writes,
"No one elected Elon, and we need to remind working folks of that and the fact that Trump put him in power. Make Trump and Elon one in the same.
Elon is Trump. DOGE is Trump. Layoffs are Trump. Higher grocery prices are Trump. Tariffs are Trump. Misery is Trump. All of this is Trump."
But, again: great density and addiction to disinformation. And it's self-chosen.

Then there's Jensy Machado, who voted for Trump and has a Trump decal on his truck, who was detained at gunpoint by ICE recently, though he's a US citizen. As the God blog notes, Machado is now "thinking about" his choice to vote for Trump. But he's not saying he regrets his vote or that he made a bad choice.
Again, how does one deal with the density of so many low-information voters?

Honestly, is it low information? Or just irrational attachment to a cult leader figure?
Is this about "low information?" I mean he had a life- experience; his information is something close to maximal is it not?
This is something else. This isn't about not knowing what's happening, this is about accepting your own brutalization. This is an attribute of a cult, I think.
Trump has succeeded in defining his enemies as their enemies and no amount of "information" can break that spell.
To be blunt: if Trump personally murdered his child, the man would not abandon Trump.
@wdlindsy Could it be about simplicity amidst chaos? The whole thing you need is Trump is right. Period. What a relief.
