"Trump thinks about Canada in much the same way Vladimir Putin thinks about Ukraine. He identifies with his fellow imperialist. ... the way Trump talks about annexing Canada bears a disconcerting resemblance to the way Putin talks about annexing Ukraine."

The Bulwark · Trump’s Lust for Canada Echoes Putin’s Lust for UkraineBy Will Saletan

As Evan Hurst notes, it's clear from multiple instances that

"Vladimir Putin mocks Trump to his face, he mocks him behind his back, and he mocks him on live TV in front of audiences of Russians."

Though Fox News and Trump epigones want to pretend that Putin didn't keep Trump waiting for their recent phone call — a humiliation tactic — there's video footage of Putin laughing about this to an audience who laugh back.

Wonkette · Does Trump Know How Much Putin Makes Fun Of Him To His Face?By Evan Hurst

“Many times when Putin and Trump are interacting, Putin’s actually making fun of him. It’s just completely lost in the translation. I can give lots of episodes of this. Or he’s goading him and urging him onto something because he’s trying to see how he will react."

Foreign Affairs · What Does Trump See in Putin?A Conversation With Fiona Hill

@wdlindsy

Trump doesn't care. All he cares about is the money.

@megatronicthronbanks @wdlindsy Trump's constant vassilage "proves" to the guys who also love Andrew Tate that negging works.

@wdlindsy @inthehands what I think people in the west don’t realize is how batshit **insane** the idea of Russia being in a war with Ukraine, much less trying to annex it was as 2012. Under USSR Ukraine houses nuclear missiles, Black Sea fleet, critical military factories, air defense, radars, … even in early 2022 nobody - Russia of Ukraine - believed that a full-scale invasion was possible; and more than a few Russian companies surrendered as soon as they realized what was happening.
