We had a proper tropical storm today, in the middle of winter, temperate zone of the old continent. You know, the lot; torrential rain, dangerous gusts of wind, minutes long thunders and intense lightnings. But that passed and when it cleared, we were greeted with this wonderfully contrasting scenery you see below. I call this one "a glimmer of hope".

A view of a mountain in the Southern Alps on September 15 2024. Snow persists at its peak for days now even on the sunny side and there's a possibility of further snowfall in the coming days. The white blob between local hilltops and the mountain is a distant mountain range deeper into Alps that's entirely covered in fresh snow. I was seeking refreshment from intense heat in a 28°C Adriatic Sea mere 80mi away at the beginning of this week. Now, I'm unmothballing my winter wardrobe. This. Is. Not. Normal!

Young female #blackbird, caught mid-grooming after a short #spring shower, perched on a bare branch of an old bigleaf maple tree covered in #lichen. Heavily processed to remove optical effects of a triple-pane window it was shot through. Shot #handheld on a #CanonR6 camera with #IBIS and using a manual #Konica #Hexanon AR #135mm f/3.2 #VintageLens @ f/4 1/160s and a matched 2x #teleconverter (effective F=270mm, f/8). Lighting was front and poor so I also lifted shadows and contrast a bit. Camera did a great job of keeping noise at minimum even at ISO2000 so the end result remains reasonably clean.
