THE THIRD RAIL
Id Music
1967 U.S. pressing
One hell of an infectious #60s #psychedelic pop record, anchored by the almost annoyingly catchy “Run, Run, Run”.
Every one of these songs but one clock in at around two & a half minutes, with the longest one being 3:07. So either way, love it or hate it, it’s over before you know it.
Not much to hate here, though. Pretty fun album.

I've had this song playing on a loop in my head for the last couple of days.
Wonder if folks (especially from the #UK) might have heard it before? I wasn't even aware of the band lol

Rudy, A Message to You
First released in 1967 on R&B Records’ Ska Beat label, the recording was acquired by Trojan Records in 1971 and later famously influenced the British Ska revivalists, the Specials, who enjoyed significant UK chart action in 1979 with their version of the song “A Message to You Rudy”. […]

THE ROLLING STONES
Beggars Banquet
Canada Reissue
[London Sunrise labels]
A stone cold classic for last spin of the night.
My second favorite Stones album, but it contains my favorite RS song of all time in the closer “Salt Of The Earth”.
Just a STELLAR sounding pressing as well. Really killer separation and punchy bass.
JOHN LEE HOOKER
It Serve You Right To Suffer
1966 U.S. stereo pressing
Last night, while groggily stumbling around half asleep, I stubbed my toe on our brick fireplace and fractured my foot.
I’m black, blue, swollen and miserable; in huge amounts of pain, so I figured some blues would be appropriate today while I’m laid up.
Maybe it does serve me right.
Who knows…

1965 U.S. pressing
One of the most shockingly talented instrumentalists ever.
I listen to this record a LOT, particularly when I just need to chill and relax after a long day.
This copy is still in phenomenal shape after all these years.
Just a great record, as are ALL of his records.

To piggyback off my post of Peter Kelley, just wanted to post this for those who are intrigued who want to learn a little more about him.
He was a pretty wild dude.
Check out this thing I found. This is just scratching the surface

#HitAndMiss
The Chris Kenner original wasn't a huge hit for him but two other artists had better luck. The legendary Wilson Pickett recorded a successful version, but the band that really had a smash with it was a Mexican-American garage band called "Cannibal and the Headhunters".

This week's #JukeboxFridayNight theme is #HitAndMiss. There were multiple options for this theme, I chose "songs that were hits when covered but misses for the original artist".
Aretha Franklin's sister Erma was the first to record this tune later made famous by Janis Joplin. A miss on the charts comparatively, but definitely not a miss otherwise.

DAVID PEEL AND THE LOWER EAST SIDE
Have A Marijuana
1968 U.S. pressing
Last spin of the night.
Peel loved weed and hated cops. His music was raw, and talked about weed and bad cops.
Really fun record.
