@eyesquash this looks like it wants steel strings.
Stella was an inexpensive brand, so keeping one in good shape over the long term is going to be challenging. I'd get the absolute lightest strings you can find and hope the neck doesn't go bad.
(It's possible the neck has a built in back bow - this was sometimes a way to prevent the action from going sky high, where a set of standard tension strings would pull the neck forward enough it was "straight" for playing)
