Bicycling Monterey 💚🌎🌍🌏
As the San Diego County, California’s City of Carlsbad "Snapshot of fines associated with violations” in https://www.carlsbadca.gov/departments/streets-traffic/traffic-safety/electric-bikes notes, “The actual fine does not include approximately $300 dollars in additional court fees.”

Similarly true here in Monterey County. For example, while state law allows a $25 fine for Helmet Required [for minors], 21212(a) CVC, in actuality, if you’re under 18 and are cited for no helmet in Monterey County, you’re typically going to be out $193 due the court, not $25. Jesse
The most frustrating thing about bicycle advocacy in Australia is that all the data is there, we've got in principle support from local councils and the state governments, and government plans for handling future traffic congestion and emissions reductions are relying on significant number (25%) of trips to be via active transport in a relatively short time frame (2030) but getting infrastructure to support these clearly stated goals is like squeezing water from a stone.

It's not a money problem or a logistics problem but only a problem of political will to do the things they need to do to meet the targets they've set.

#SpringSt #bicycles #ActiveTransport
