@johnbrowntypebeats I like to point out whenever relevant that in much of the Appalachians, especially in East TN, the Confederacy wasn't universally supported.

Most importantly, the Appalachian Mountains are a great location to launch a guerilla insurgency from.

We've fought this shit before and we'll do it again.

Compared to my mother and sister, I have a pretty mild #Appalachian accent, I think from my years in speech therapy as a kid and the fact that both my dad and my step-father were midwesterners growing up. Anybody from up north can hear it immediately but for those living here it isn't as obvious.

However, you put six beers in me (or more) and I gradually start sounding one step out of the holler with a jar of apple pie shine in my hand.

The USA has a tradition of so-called “high lonesome” songs. Very charismatic, mostly very simple songs from the Appalachians, but also from elsewhere. As the name suggests, these are not exactly funny songs to dance to. They are mostly imbued with this peculiar pagan-satanic Christianity that is cultivated in the South. I’ve always liked these songs. They still exist. Still not funny! @onan you will like it too!? youtube.com/watch?v=YBjOO9sTSy

My incredible girlfriend started playing #banjo earlier this year, and she got good at it rather quickly!

She plays #clawhammer style, which is the more traditional sound of the #Appalachian region. It sounds gentler and more melodic than bluegrass.

She's begun writing her own songs as well. Give her a listen and a follow!

I'm inspired by and proud of the work my husband does supporting #Appalachian #education via the #AppalachianCollegeAssociation. I'm sharing this below for those interested in helping campus communities in #Appalachia recovering from #HurricaneHelene.
