L.J.'s victorious sword-dance
After having what I thought were fairly reasonable edits modified and undone almost instantly, I guess that's the last time I'm contributing to the #ArchLinux wiki other than testing something out to make sure the other person didn't introduce a breaking error with their edit. I am personally helped immensely by having the exact commands in hand when I'm not sure what I'm doing, and people with more knowledge will know alternate ways of achieving the same things anyway, but if that's unacceptable to the established #wiki workflow then I guess my contributions aren't needed. 🤷‍♀️ That's the second time after the subreddit that my attempts to contribute have been deemed badwrong, so it's time to well and truly stop.

L.J.'s victorious sword-dance
OmfGGGGGG, I spent far too much time & sweat resolving a weird, super annoying issue where roughly the bottom 3rd of my second Dell monitor connected by a #DisplayLink USB to my 2015 Macbook Air #ArchLinux machine cut off and showed a giant black band, making the bottom of the screen unusable in vertical rotation--and ONLY in vertical rotation, as I confirmed a fully working display in horizontal rotation ruling out hardware issues.

I must have looked up a hundred help pages and tried like a dozen solutions, starting with a full system upgrade and going from adjusting resolutions to trying all kinds of graphic cards settings.

My searches led me to narrow my suspicions down to some kind of driver issue, and I smelled a rat when I tried uninstalling the recommended #evdi / DisplayLink combination from the Arch Wiki and the second monitor kept working in its broken state. Realizing the DisplayLink driver was not being used, I tried excluding the default udl driver, which setting didn't work until I added the config to mkinitcpio.conf and rebuilt initramfs per this post from 13 fucking YEARS ago. https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1166918#p1166918 Then I reinstalled the evdi and DisplayLink drivers and pow, monitor works perfectly again.
