#autocar also reports that #Suzuki is putting the handbrake on their #EV plans.

I just increasingly get the feeling Japanese car manufacturers are going to be facing some very dire times in the next 5–10 years. They will be outpaced by China and Korea, as well as individual companies elsewhere.

Got another old #motoring book, a #drivers #education book published by the #Autocar magazine apparently from 1942, although it doesn't mention wartime conditions (other editions of this book do).

There wasn't even a #DrivingTest - whilst this was introduced in 1935, it was suspended when war broke out in 1939 and not reintroduced until 1946! #Cars weren't as easy to drive, ignition timing and idle speed had to be adjusted at the steering wheel to avoid stalling or racing the engine in neutral

As an essential preliminary to the driving of any car, a driving licence must be secured from the local authority the county or borough council of the area in which the driver resides. This will cost five shillings and is renewable annually from the date of issue. No test of driving skill or physical condition is imposed prior to the issue of-a driving licence. Controls of a 1940s car (there is an ignition timing lever as well as throttle idle speed on the steering wheel where today there are normally controls for infotainment, the choke is called a "strangler", a seperate starter switch is at floor level, handbrake is on the right and the headlamp dipper is a pull lever (which physically dips the headlight unit)

So today Mr #Will #Rimmel of #Autocar magazine tells us two things:-

1. Sales of #EVs in #September have risen, are a record level;

2. Sales of EVs have "waned."*

Leaving aside whether he is doing his job as a sort of #journalist; Can do arithmetic; know up from down; and what his job actually _is_, his editor and the sub have failed to do the usual job of those.

Or have I missed something?
