Red Lodge Mountain ski area is runnable now lower half today. Base 2255m top 2870m. We ran up single track biking trails put in few years ago, then access roads to about 2470m. Cool pattern 2C up top. Thick fog with lite hail showers, thankfully no ⚡️. The hail wasn't heavy enough to be a problem, or flatten the wildflowers on exposed S slopes. 7-10 more days, probably could easily make it to the top. #running #dogs #climate #montana #beartooth #wildflowers

nice view spot at 2450m looking NW down to Palisades Rocks. Ominous looking sky, but weak showers. upper trough moved thru earlier.
there is most of it. those big exposed N facing runs have a lot of artificial snow, without that, would melt earlier.
only 2C but lite breeze, so not bad really.

this spot was cleared for a function space. beautiful views for weddings and memorial services. as long as the weather holds.
love the thick fog here 2470m where we turned back. snowpack was firm, but continuous.

Warm 8-11C for our two skis on/near Beartooth Plateau, snow melting fast. Still good and firm tho, great spring slush. First was 3200-3250m below 3334m pass. Fog rolled in so had cut it short. Second by 3000m Island Lake again which is opening up. After that, finally found/hiked out to Quad Creek RAWS, a vital platform 👍🏽. Provides important high-elev. wind info during our OCT-APR strong storm season. Lots of snowmelt/warn next 3 days. #climate #skiing #hiking #montana #mountains #dogs #beartooth

the huge drift off the 3355m ridge that the highway ascends to the little ski area. easily 5-10m thick.
Our return to the start, you can see it way in back. 3240m here. Highest point visible way in back 3824m Silver Run Plateau

The Beartooth Highway US-212 can also be accessed for skiing via the Chief Joseph Bi-way from WY. Where the two meet, winter closure is just east a bit. Coverage was skimpy at first, 2250-2350, but after that, thick spring slush 👍. Fast up and down. We just went up to near the base of Clay Butte, 2450m. Don't want Sundance to overdo, we could have gone up onto Beartooth Plateau 3000m +. 10C lite west wind, quite nice. More snow coming late tomorrow-Fri. #climate #dogs #skiing #gye #beartooth

nothing compares to stopping on the long drive at the bridge over Sunlight Creek. 150m vertical looking over the railing in that deep narrow gap. slightly vertiginous 😜. glad it was not windy today.
nice orange sandstone ridge on the way back down into the desert of the Bighorn Basin. Bighorns way out east in back.
so glad we got good skiing in here. 9C at the start, with that strong sun.
