Watched once again one of my favorite videos, Maxine Brown singing the classic Goffin/King composition "Oh No Not My Baby" on the Bitter End Show in 1968.

The song has been recorded by countless others, from Dusty Springfield to Rod Stewart, but Brown was the first to release it, and had the hit version in 1964. This is a live performance, in which she is backed by a great band apparently led by pianist Bernie Worrell.

"Flash Light" is a song by funk band Parliament, written by #GeorgeClinton, #BernieWorrell, and #BootsyCollins and released in January 28, 1978, on the album #FunkentelechyVsThePlaceboSyndrome. It was the first No. 1 R&B hit by any of the #PFunk groups and spent four months on the U.S. pop chart, peaking at No. 16. "Flash Light" (also called "Flashlight") is the final song on #Parliament’s 1977 album Funkentelechy Vs. the Placebo Syndrome.

Take #BernieWorrell (P-Funk, Talking Heads), Will Calhoun (#LivingColour, Wayne Shorter), Doug Wimbish (Sugar Hill Rap house band, Living Colour), Dr. Know (#BadBrains) and #mosdef and you have one helluva heavyweight ensemble.

Black Jack Johnson.

A band that had impeccable pedigree and so much potential never got to do their own thing beyond a handful of live shows (and ostensibly they all played on Mos Def's solo album The New Danger).

Some music history before I go into my 🛏️.

Did you know that the bassline on *Flash Light* by #Parliament was created by late keyboardist #BernieWorrell? He used three (or four) Minimoogs to create this famous synth bassline (that was written for Bootsy Collins). This 1977 synth bassline had a huge influence on a lot of musical genres in the 80's and later.
