Dear friends of #BonkWave , #NotBonkWave and #ElectronicMusic - behold the modified ADSR envelopes which I have managed to generate from #BitwigStudio in my #ShermanikFilterbank preset. The original #ShermanFilterbank manual shows these wild envelopes which always go positive in the attack phase, but then based on the attenuverter can be pushed very, or slightly negative, or made more typical looking. These make for some very interesting sounds.

#BonkWave or #NotBonkWave Ready!
Here's a fresh demo v4.2 of my #ShermanikFilterbank preset. I've heavily reworked this after several days of comparison testing against my own #ShermanFilterbank 2. If you like what you are hearing this is, in essence, the default patch with some modulation added. The preset is built in #BitwigStudio v4.0.

Continued thread

Much of today disappeared into comparison testing my #BitwigStudio #ShermanikFilterbank preset. I’ve decided that it sounds so different that it is now at v4.0.

Is it a good idea to knowingly use a semi-non-functional piece of hardware as a guide? Maybe. Have I found that everything influences everything else in a messy-yet-musically pleasing manner? Yes!

I had built the ADSR portion as entirely focused on modulating the resonance, but in reality the cutoff frequency bounces a little…

#Fedora #KDE #flatpak record thus far:

@zenbrowser - Couldn't get it to launch reliably for blood or money. Filed an issue. Also just installed the standalone binary and bujilt my own KDE desktop icon. Works great now :)

#BitwigStudio - Splash screen appeared but app wouldn't run when launched from the KDE menu. Got the command line invocation out of "Edit Application" and tried that. It worked! Signed in, and from then on it runs just fine by the usual method. 🤷

Not an amazing new user experience, but I do recognize that Fedora KDE is just a young'un and those of us who install it will pay the early adopter tax.

I recognize that Flatpak's security model is seriously amazing, but I wonder if there's more complexity there than the average vendor wanting to ship an app can readily handle?

Clearly I need to study some of this to see if I can help in any way. Flatpak is clearly here to stay, probably would be good for all of us to try to smooth out the kinks, at least for apps where sandboxing makes sense.

@a there are some nice looking controllers, but until my antique #BCF2000 fall to pieces that can wait.

There’s several emulations on my website for #BitwigStudio v4.0+ a Sherman Filterbank, a Sealegs delay thing and a multi-band compressor preset. I have a new complex oscillator inspired by the Buchla 259 that works with v5.0+ - I plan to make a release page for that shortly.

My goodness, I am back in Reason remastering old tracks. OMFG it is no Bitwig Studio, but it’s the DAW that I started in back in the day.

Yeah there’s a ‘Best of Synaptyx [Remastered 2025]’ coming, but it’ll be a while. I’m just figuring out the best way to do it. I’m thinking get the stems out of Reason and master in Bitwig, but it’s kind of fun exercising the old Reason muscle memories, idk, we’ll see how it shakes out.
