earthling<p>Gigantic Jets over Himalayan Mountains</p><p>Pictured here are gigantic jets shooting up from a thunderstorm last week toward the Himalayan Mountains in China and Bhutan. The composite image captured four long jets that occurred only minutes apart. Scientists that study transient luminous events ( <a href="https://c.im/tags/TLEs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TLEs</span></a> ) have partnered with <a href="https://c.im/tags/StormChasers" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>StormChasers</span></a> who enjoy taking photographs of <a href="https://c.im/tags/sprites" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>sprites</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/trolls" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>trolls</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/gnomes" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>gnomes</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/BlueJets" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BlueJets</span></a> and other ephemeral beings of the electric TLE fairy kingdom. </p><p>The website just launched right around Halloween, so we're still trying to get the word out. Citizen science projects work really well when lots of people participate, so the more people that know about it, the better. Even if you're not a photographer, someone you know might be. And you don't have to be a photographer to help out! You can also help by learning to distinguish among different types of TLEs and verify images that photographers submit.</p><p>Help NASA and help science!
