Okay, refilled the free not trademarked library on the curb. Put Sharpie through the UPS codes and marked up some covers to discourage book dealers (still readable!). Hate to do it, but it's put there for folks to *read* the books, not resell the books. Snagged a bunch of kids books as well. #bookstodon

Finished Vulcan’s Soul, Book III: Epiphany (2007) by Josepha Sherman and Susan Shwartz and I did enjoy this one more than the first two books in the trilogy, but still had some issues. The novel centers around the consequences to the Romulan Empire after the Dominion War of the threat of a dangerous species. 1/5 #StarTrek #bookstodon

Book View Cafe is pleased to offer a classic multi-generational saga of love, betrayal, revenge, and the rise of a new Hollywood aristocracy.

FLICKERS, by Katharine Kerr writing as Kathryn A. Jordan. Not a romance, an epic--it has a little bit of everything.

There's a sample! Get lost in history this weekend. @bookstodon @books #bookstodon #California #Hollywood #Movies #history #Family #ebooks

A new favourite author/book: Danish writer Solvej Balle and her On The Calculation of Volume, a literary fiction novel in 7 parts about a woman stuck in the same day, the 18th of November. I just finished the 2nd part and now have to wait for the next two to be released in English...on November 18. :ablobdundundun: Highly recommend, especially if you're currently having an existential crisis, lol.

Just finished the latest Lady Astronaut book by Mary Robinette Kowal, The Martian Contingency.

Super good book, filled with competent people dealing with the sorts of problems that would arise from trying to set up on Mars to escape an Earth dying from runaway climate change.

Also, loved catching Kowal's usual Doctor Who easter egg reference for this book on the first read.

So my wife @amysparkes.bsky.social @StoryGodmother (a New York Times bestselling writer - yes she's still milking it!) is starting a new newsletter to connect with readers of her books. The first one is coming out tomorrow - I know 'cause I've just scheduled it on @buttondown
She writes for everything from adult novels (out July) down to picture books, so over time there'll be something for everyone. Please consider signing up at buttondown.com/AmySparkesAutho and please boost

Meanwhile, it's my turn with my public library's copy of Paul Beatty's The Sellout and let me tell you, every page is loaded with very bitter laughs. Occasionally at the expense of people like, oh, Clarence Thomas, whom the author depicts as finally breaking with his long tradition of never saying shit in session, only to burst out with the N-word. A perfect read for today. Bonus: it kind of predicted Perceval Everett's James. Bitterly. Funny.
