"Stretching from Gloucester in the north to Salisbury in the south and Weston-super-Mare in the west, the new project will span three counties and the city of Bristol. The aim is to combine the environmental benefits of tree planting with social and economic gains, such as new opportunities for tourism and leisure. Unlike in the Midlands, where the forest was established in a post-industrial landscape scarred by mining and clay pits, the western forest includes prime agricultural land."

Both #Bristol and #Somerset have coalfields which were actively mined into the 20th century.

"Several locals turned up at City Hall to speak to councillors about their views on the scheme, during a meeting of the transport policy committee on Thursday, March 20. Many more submitted written statements. In total, 39 of the 62 statements were supporting the East Bristol Liveable Neighbourhood, compared to 10 who opposed the scheme."

" I know how important arts (and) creative industries are to regenerating an area. And this is a classic instance of how a part of Bristol that for a long time, ignored and forgotten and really struggled, was completely transformed."

It was a solid working-class area before it was *transformed* with trendy bars and overpriced food shops, you muppet.

@boakandbailey it's not a place I'd go for a bevvy, even though its 10 minutes walk from me. The hillgrove is a great pub -as are most of the St Michael's hill establishments.
And for the pizza and local beer experience: Beerd is the place of choice. I'm now known by name there -which is really disconcerting
