Are you into fishing? The "fishing rods" in this image are a tad bigger than the ones you may be used to 😉 In this image of our Extremely Large Telescope, currently under construction in #Chile, huge cranes appear to be fishing for construction materials around the telescope.

Inside the dome is the telescope's main structure, which will eventually hold the telescope's mirrors, including its huge 39-m primary mirror.

A night image of a partially-built telescope under the stars. The image uses a distorted projection, which creates a focal point in the centre which is closer to the viewer, and which everything bends around. The middle of the picture is taken up by the dome building of the ELT, with a crane on the right that extends from the bottom right of the image, curving up to the middle of the image at the top. Its tether line splits the image in half horizontally. The dome of the ELT is open, showing the beams that hold the main structure in place, around it, are the beams that will make the doors once panelling is attached to it. Above the ELT on the left is the Milky Way, extending from the horizon about a third of the way up the image, meeting the top of the crane in top middle of the image. The Milky Way looks like a blue and purple wispy cloud, with points of white, the brighter stars.
