Seriously though, the #CPC would have to be complete morons to continue to follow a guy who turned a massive lead and a virtual guaranteed victory into a loss. Oh wait.
Seriously though, the #CPC would have to be complete morons to continue to follow a guy who turned a massive lead and a virtual guaranteed victory into a loss. Oh wait.
The antiquated, undemocratic, insanity of the Canadian electoral system was really what took centre stage last night as Canadians all over the country tried to figure out how to twist and squeeze the First Past the Post system into a result that would stop our own mini-Trump.
We managed to do it successfully in enough places, but it had the opposite effect in others, allowing #CPC candidates to come up the middle, and all at the expense of our multi-party democracy.
There are plenty of ridings to pick from for examples, but the simplest example of what is wrong is always the national vote compared to seats.
Bloc: 6.4% national vote = 6.7% (23) seats.
NDP: 6.3% national vote = 2.0% (7) seats.
Until the two ‘ruling' parties fix this, Canada will never be a truly functional modern democracy.
Now, in a minority situation where doing what is best for the country as a whole should be top of everyone's agenda, could be a good time to push.
It would also save our Elections Canada workers from having to deal with another 6ft long ballot in some as yet undetermined riding. ;=)
#WarrenKinsella on the #CPC campaign:
«Disagree. Their biggest mistake was not saying "Trump isn't a Conservative. He's against the things we are for: individual rights, Canadian sovereignty, free trade, a government that doesn't boss you around. We are Conservatives, he's a bully."
That was the mistake.»
Objectively, that was a very good campaign for the #Conservatives: highest vote percentage since 1988 (41.4% now; 43.0% then), seats across the country, a broad coalition of voters, more support from under-30s than normal. The principal reason the #CPC didn't win a plurality was because of the collapse of the NDP, but there's not so much Conservatives can do about that.
There were things that could have been done better, but Conservatives should thank #JenniByrne and the team.
#PeePee losing his seat means some interesting decisions by the #CPC. He has vowed to stay on as leader, so that means finding a riding for him to win so he can sit in Parliament and toss slogans at the opposition party. That means a nice safe riding since he can't be embarrassed by losing again. Which popular #CPC candidate is going to take one for the team and give up their seat.
Meanwhile, I congratulate @mark-carney.bsky.social on his much deserved win. While four seats shy of a majority, taking the #LPC from a near certain loss to the #CPC as of January to this point is one heck of a feat! And the latest results show Poilievre may just lose his own seat! #cdnpoli #elxn45
@Andy_European Now that #Poilievre has been exorcised from the #CPC there should be an attempt to create a government of #NationalUnity with the real patriots in the #CPC.
While Pollievre's own race in Carleton remains uncertain, he's speaking now and affirms that he will be staying on as leader of the #CPC .
Poilievre giving his loser speech. I just cracked another to celebrate.
“With the ndp collapsing, the #cpc has nowhere to go but more towards the center.”
guys... I'm nervous.
It's early, but I'm nervous! CPC doing well in Atlantic Canada in early votes?
I heard from @danneau today that Courtenay-Alberni was one of the top ridings *in the country* for Advanced Polls turnout!
Here's Elections Canada data page:
https://www.elections.ca/content.aspx?section=med&document=ge45_advpol&lang=e#tbl4
Here are the top four ridings:
#1: #CPC leader #PierrePoillievre's riding
Carleton: 43,394 votes cast
#2: #GPC leader #ElizabethMay's riding
Saanich—Gulf Islands: 37,468
#3: Essex (near Windsor ON): 34,668
#4: Calgary Crowfoot: 33,743
#5: #LPC leader #MarkCarney's riding
Nepean (near Ottawa): 32,689
#6: Ottawa Centre: 32,604
#7: Courtenay-Alberni: 32,536
Tomorrow will be.... INTERESTING!! #Elxn45 #CanPoli #CdnPoli
Only four points separate the #LPC (43%) and #CPC (39%) with one day until #elxn45 while the #NDP is way behind at 8%. Unless you voted early, get out and vote tomorrow like your life depends on it! #cdnpoli newsinteractives.cbc.ca/elections/po...

20 years since I had a house insurance claim. My policy just renewed at a 64% increase from last year.
The policies of Danielle Smith and the #UCP, encouraging the creation of a US style insurance environment, and governmental abdication of any role in handling the effects of climate change. Among other things.
Canada: we're so focused on the #conservative led circus to the south. But Conservatives are ruining Canada too, and the #CPC looks to #Alberta as the template.
