Sounds like the EU is scoping out CPTPP membership in response to the US becoming so unreliable. Very wise.

But also funny - as the UK joining CPTPP looked like (and was) an act of sheer desperation. I mocked it at the time - gravity and the shallowness of the arrangement made it no substitute for European trade.

And, you know, I was right to mock it, but if the EU joins too then it's accidentally become good policy. Funny old world.

Canada, Mexico and Japan are amongst 12 member nations of CPTPP, the successor to TPP which was aborted when USA under Trump1 withdrew.

There seems to have been invitations to EU joining CPTPP as well, though not sure how that's moving.

Good grief. Your lot said this about the NZ deal.
And then what happened? The EU signed a much better deal with NZ that didn’t screw over their farmers and DID include association to Horizon Europe.
You jokers need voting out - immediately.

NitterCraig Mackinlay MP (@cmackinlay)This would not have been possible without #Brexit. Under #EU membership no #UK trade Minister would be allowed to discuss, let alone sign such a wide reaching deal. Membership of EU single market & customs union put this out of reach. #CPTPP means lower prices for consumers, new markets for businesses & a new era of cooperation with old friends. 📈The CPTPP covers 11 countries across the Indo - Pacific and is worth £12 trillion in GDP - larger than the EU.
