A slightly updated #introduction as I'm closing out my tiny private instance and moving here.

I had stepped away for a bit, so I am hoping the move here really pushes me to refocus and re-engage with communities on Mastodon.

As for who I am:

I'm a researcher, writer, and developer living in Minnesota. I have a PhD in #TechComm with research interests in the #digitalhumanities and the #sociotechnical histories surrounding technology.

I work primarily in the #civictech and #nonprofit space helping organizations tackling homelessness.

I also talk a lot about #poetry , #art, and the random #ttrpg.

I am looking forward to re-connecting!

Hey y’all,

I’m excited to be hosting CityCamp Atlanta for @CivicTechAtlanta with amazing partners and volunteers!

Right now, we’re looking for donations to help cover the costs for coffee, artist compensation, and print materials.

If you can donate, any amount is greatly appreciated!
If you know anyone that could provide in-kind donations, references are greatly appreciated!

This is super interesting. Not only the civic ai part but the federated TEPs. I've been arguing for a long time that civic provision of tech communication and information lies in federated self hosted tech. All universities should be doing this too.

✨ New from @NGICommons: We interviewed Nil Homedes Busquet @nilhb from @decidim to explore how participatory #democracy can scale — as a true #DigitalCommons.
#Decidim means "we decide" in Catalan, and that ethos runs deep in both their code and community governance.
Read about their journey, governance model, and funding challenges👇

This was written in 2015, but damn! It still holds true ten years later

“The most common mistake folks make is to think that there’s The Government that needs fixing, but there is no The Government. Our civic lives are driven by a network of tens of thousands of different systems that have evolved over decades and centuries to be what they are today.
Each of those parts of our civic lives — from elections to charities looking out for those in need — all need more people willing to help. Volunteer at a food bank or at a library to help your neighbors find the resources they need. Join a protest with people whose rights are being trampled.”
