"This Little Light of Mine" is an African-American song from the 1920s. It was often reported to be written for children in the 1920s by #HarryDixonLoes, but he never claimed credit for #theOriginal version of the song, and researchers at the #MoodyBibleInstitute, where Loes worked, said they have found no evidence that he wrote it. It was later adapted by #ZilphiaHorton, amongst many other #activists, in connection with the #civilRightsMovement.

#OnThisDay in 1968, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated at his motel in Memphis, Tennessee.

The night before, in what felt like a premonition, King delivered his powerful "I've Been to the Mountaintop" speech, reflecting on his life and legacy. The next day, unidentified reporters broke the tragic news of his shooting and eventual assassination.

In times when police turned terrorists,
People became obliged to save their rights,
Just like a civil war it became,
Otherwise there won't be another election.

#OnThisDay in 1965, #MalcolmX was assassinated while giving a speech in Manhattan’s Audubon Ballroom. A fearless advocate for Black liberation, he challenged systemic oppression and called for self-determination. His views on race and justice evolved over time, but his words continue to inspire movements for justice and empowerment.
