So in between academic writing I've been installing nextcloud on LAMP stack shared hosting. Everything works but I can't get the built in Collabora server to work. It works with the demo remote servers so it might be blocked by the host (they sell nextcloud as saas) or could be my VPN. It times out, and doesn't give a wopi error in the logs so I'm going to try a localhost version to see if that works. Stumped atm. Interesting though, so we'll see.

@owainski I like #iWork but it’s a different UI concept than the #MSO #OpenOffice concept so it takes a bit of getting used to. I’ve been using #LiO from its beginning on both #Windows and #Linux as well as #MacOS. The cross-device integration is much better with iWork and I’ve found #Numbers to be more advanced (at least for my limited use of spreadsheets) than either Excel or Calc. But if you use LiO on your desktop or notebook and #Collabora on your tablet or mobile, w/ the Cloud, they work.

Großes Lob & Dank an @ossrox für ihre tollen Open Source Services, die noch besser ermöglichen einfach von den amerikanischen Unternehmen wegzukommen.

Ich hoffe immer mehr Menschen, Organisationen, Vereine und Unternehmen nutzen diese Möglichkeiten und kommen aus ihrer großen Komfortzone, um die Verbreitung europäischer Dienste zu fördern.

I really like the integration of #CollaboraOfficeOnline into #Nexctloud, but the built-in CODE server takes up 1.6GB of memory, which is just too much for my 4GB VPS. #Hetzner Storage Share doesn't even include it for this reason.
Nextloud allows you to connect to any #Collabora Online server. Such a resource-intensive service is a great candidate for sharing, but no one offered it as a (paid) service, so I asked @archos if they could offer it as part of their @oscloud. They did and it works great and I just set up a recurring donation for them. 👍

Kann ich eigentlich bei Nextcloud ein Dokument, das ich (mit Bearbeitungsrechten) mit anderen geteilt habe, dieses temporär für die Bearbeitung sperren?

Hintergrund ist, dass ich für größere Änderungen (z.B. viele Grafiken einfügen) gerne offline arbeiten würde (Dokument runterladen, in Libreoffice bearbeiten, wieder hochladen), weil das flüssiger läuft als das online-Office. Blöd wäre es dann, wenn ausgerechnet zwischendrin jemand online was ändern würde.

Office-Umsteiger landen, vmtl. weil das Produkt schon länger am Markt ist, oft bei #OpenOffice. Bereits 2010 entstand aber daraus #LibreOffice das aktiver weiterentwickelt wird, und offenbar auch bei der Sicherheit klar vorne liegt. Angesichts offener Bugs ist ein Umstieg für OO-User als angeraten.

Auf LibreOffice basiert übrigens auch das Online-Office #Collabora das z.B. in #Nextcloud oder #Moodle integriert werden kann.
