In case you've never been to the Midwest in the late summer, this is what it looks like to drive down a rural back road--one of those roads that has no name, just coordinates--in Illinois: Walls of corn on either side of a road too narrow for two vehicles (but well-mown shoulders).

If you drive down one, be prepared to slow down at every intersection. The corn's far too tall to see cross traffic, and people die every year in those intersections.

Whenever I take a bite of these, there will always be a part of me that’s a kid, sitting at the table with my family, fighting over who gets a double this round. 💜
Corn cakes! A tradition in my family - my grandfather made them for his kids, my dad made them for us. Basically just enough egg and bisquick to hold together the corn into little pancakes. Sweet and salty, idyllic summer breakfast!

Corn of Plenty.

"In the week ahead, some of the country’s most oppressive heat and humidity will be found in the Corn Belt, an area of the United States that stretches from the Dakotas to Ohio, sending heat index values toward a dangerous 115 degrees. States such as Missouri, Minnesota, Iowa, Indiana, Illinois and the Dakotas are forecast to have humidity levels that rival or exceed Florida’s."
