David :SetouchiExplorer:<p>All right, I'm utterly confused, but it could be some "good" news. As a reminder, in my latest <a href="https://setouchi.social/tags/CrowUpdate" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CrowUpdate</span></a> last Friday, I announced Mr. Crow's death.</p><p>Well... Maybe I was grossly mistaken, because I'm pretty sure that the crow I just spent time with in the park is Mr. Crow. <br>But the picture of the dead crow? The wing injuries were exactly the same as Mr Crow's? Yes, I'm still positive. And the beak looked like an adult beak, right? Yes, I think so.</p><p>🧵 ⤵️ </p><p><a href="https://setouchi.social/tags/crows" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>crows</span></a> <a href="https://setouchi.social/tags/birds" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>birds</span></a></p>
David :SetouchiExplorer:<p>Alright, today is the <a href="https://setouchi.social/tags/CrowUpdate" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CrowUpdate</span></a> I've been dreading to write, but I knew it'd come eventually. I won't create any ill-timed suspense: Mr. Crow died this morning!</p><p>I don't exactly know what happened, I'll probably never know. While I was getting ready this morning, I heard some ruckus at the border between "my" crows and the south crows territories. Indeed they were arguing or fighting or something. I counted five crows fighting/freaking out about a black spot on the street. <br>⤵️ 🧵 </p><p><a href="https://setouchi.social/tags/crows" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>crows</span></a> <a href="https://setouchi.social/tags/birds" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>birds</span></a></p>
David :SetouchiExplorer:<p><a href="https://setouchi.social/tags/CrowUpdate" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CrowUpdate</span></a> Not a fun one. It's about the crows-by-the-sea. Returning home after bringing my son to school, I stopped by the park-by-the-sea as I do every Tuesday and surprise, the crows-by-the-sea were all there. I hadn't seen them in the park that gave them their nickname in more than a year. I'd be a good occasion to understand better what happened, but sadly, I had no peanuts with me.<br>As I was afraid, the crow that died last week was an adult, the one that trusted me the most. 😢 </p><p>⤵️ </p><p><a href="https://setouchi.social/tags/crows" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>crows</span></a></p>
David :SetouchiExplorer:<p><a href="https://setouchi.social/tags/CrowUpdate" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CrowUpdate</span></a> "My" crows refuse to come to the balcony at the moment, I assume the metal ledge is just too hot to land on. So, it's back to peanuts in the garden (which I'm not a fan of, they tend to open them there and sometimes make a mess, including in the neighbor's garden).</p><p>Apart from that, I need to figure out which one of the "crows-by-the-sea" died because I'm afraid it could be an adult, possibly the one who was most familiar with me. 😢 (the one on my profile banner).</p><p>⤵️ 🧵 </p><p><a href="https://setouchi.social/tags/crows" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>crows</span></a></p>
David :SetouchiExplorer:<p><a href="https://setouchi.social/tags/CrowUpdate" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CrowUpdate</span></a> Not about my crows, they're doing fine, mostly spending their days trying to stay away from the heat as much as they can. It's about the crows-by-the-sea. I've barely seen them lately, but that's my fault, I've barely been to their territory (except by car, I cross it daily). However, tonight, driving through, I noticed a dead crow on the sidewalk!!! I walked back there shortly after, and yes, one of them is dead. 😢 (1 of 2 or 3) ⤵️ </p><p><a href="https://setouchi.social/tags/crows" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>crows</span></a> <a href="https://setouchi.social/tags/birds" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>birds</span></a> <a href="https://setouchi.social/tags/corvids" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>corvids</span></a></p>
David :SetouchiExplorer:<p>I've been wanting to do this for a while, but today, I finally had the right pictures (and the right story?)<br>Enjoy.</p><p><a href="https://setouchi.social/tags/crows" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>crows</span></a> <a href="https://setouchi.social/tags/birds" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>birds</span></a> <a href="https://setouchi.social/tags/corvids" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>corvids</span></a> <a href="https://setouchi.social/tags/webcomic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>webcomic</span></a> <a href="https://setouchi.social/tags/CrowUpdate" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CrowUpdate</span></a></p>
David :SetouchiExplorer:<p>It's been a while since a <a href="https://setouchi.social/tags/CrowUpdate" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CrowUpdate</span></a> <br>I see the <a href="https://setouchi.social/tags/crows" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>crows</span></a> every day, but now the kids are quite mobile and are slowly learning to be independent (we're still far from it, but earlier today, I was surprised when at some point, mom, dad and one kid were in the park, but not the other kid. S/he arrived a few minutes later, and I was even worried something happened since the last time I saw it. So they spend less time in the park during the day, and with the heat they mostly hide in the shade? ⤵️</p>
David :SetouchiExplorer:<p>When a <a href="https://setouchi.social/tags/CrowUpdate" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CrowUpdate</span></a> is too much information: I wish one skill the parents taught to the juveniles was to not poop on the balcony when they visit.</p><p><a href="https://setouchi.social/tags/Crows" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Crows</span></a></p>
David :SetouchiExplorer:<p><a href="https://setouchi.social/tags/CrowUpdate" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CrowUpdate</span></a> So yesterday I promised some pictures of the whole crow family. Here they are. They were a little darker than I hoped, but I think that after some slight photoshopping, they're acceptable.</p><p>Starting with Ms Crow eating peanuts and the kids begging for some.</p><p>🧵 ⤵️ </p><p><a href="https://setouchi.social/tags/crows" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>crows</span></a> <a href="https://setouchi.social/tags/birds" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>birds</span></a> <a href="https://setouchi.social/tags/corvids" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>corvids</span></a></p>
David :SetouchiExplorer:<p><a href="https://setouchi.social/tags/CrowUpdate" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CrowUpdate</span></a> A few crow news from the past couple of days in no special order.<br>The kids are slowly learning to eat by themselves (but they're still mostly being fed by the parents). On the pic, one of the kids is eating some peanuts. Mom did break it into pieces, but didn't give it to him/her.</p><p>🧵 ⤵️ 1/?</p><p><a href="https://setouchi.social/tags/crows" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>crows</span></a> <a href="https://setouchi.social/tags/birds" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>birds</span></a></p>
David :SetouchiExplorer:<p>It's Tuesday morning, I'm home, it's time for a <a href="https://setouchi.social/tags/CrowUpdate" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CrowUpdate</span></a>. Not much today, just a few pictures and comments, starting with Ms Crow doing... something? Actually, she was just about to take off after eating a peanut (and probably meet the kids who were hanging out on a roof nearby)</p><p>🧵 ⤵️ (1/?)</p><p><a href="https://setouchi.social/tags/crows" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>crows</span></a> <a href="https://setouchi.social/tags/birds" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>birds</span></a></p>
David :SetouchiExplorer:<p>Mini <a href="https://setouchi.social/tags/CrowUpdate" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CrowUpdate</span></a> (no pics, sorry).<br>I got home this evening. I was on the phone. Suddenly, I hear some noise on the balcony. Strange, as I didn't leave peanuts. Sometimes Mom or Dad land on the ledge to check, but this time the noise was on the balcony (Mom and Dad won't go there if they know there isn't any food for them).</p><p>Well, you guessed it, it was Junior 1 (or was it Junior 2?) visiting the balcony. Not even scared of me when he spotted me through the window.</p><p><a href="https://setouchi.social/tags/crows" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>crows</span></a> <a href="https://setouchi.social/tags/birds" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>birds</span></a></p>

Mini #CrowUpdate (no pics). Hmm... When I leave peanuts on the balcony a bit too close to sunset, usually Ms Crow comes to double-check that I left some, but doesn't come eat them before dawn. This morning they were left uneaten. Before work, I gave some peanuts to Mr Crow who was hanging out in the park with one kid. She didn't magically show up to get her share. (second kid could be in a tree). I spotted an eagle in the sky and she didn't chase it. Where is Ms Crow? 🤔 ⤵️

Mini #CrowUpdate (no pics, sorry) when I got home tonight, Mr and Ms Crow were there and begged for peanuts. Junior 1 and 2 were around. No sign of "poor little crow," though, which is not a good sign. 😢

(the neighbor that has been feeding the crows, showed up when I was in the park and made a U-turn, only to return as I was leaving - it's okay lady, I know what you're doing, and you probably know what I'm doing, maybe we should actually team up?)

#CrowUpdate This morning, the fledgling that's always on the ground was... on the ground. I'm starting to worry about it. It seems healthy, but its parents don't seem to care much about it. Does it need just more time to develop (but I'd assume mom and dad would watch carefully) or... I have a sadder theory...

#CrowUpdate I got to spend quite some time in the park this evening. The kids were being adventurous, mostly practicing their flying skills from one tree to the other. When I gave peanuts to dad, one followed him to see what was going on. It was quite fun. And I need them to see me giving treats to their parents so that they feel more comfortable around me.

#CrowUpdate (make sure to follow the thread, it's a big one) (no big thing happened, just a bunch of small ones, but all in the span of an hour or so)
It started with me returning from work and seeing this from my car!

First, I noticed a crow flying (it's one of the crows-by-the-sea) then a black kite on a pole. Then the crow landed right next to the kite, maybe 10-20 cm from it, both within reach of the other's beak.

Continued thread

Late afternoon #CrowUpdate Just saw the three fledglings on top of trees and cables at the same time. They can all sort of fly, even the one that was constantly on the ground.

I haven't seen dad all day though (but I was away large chunks of the day)

#CrowUpdate As I mentioned earlier I was not really sure of the fledgling situation. Well, now I am. I could only see one since Thursday because only one is on the ground. The two others can sort of fly already and are hiding in the trees. I spotted them finally. Now, I'm wondering if the one on the ground is fine. It seems healthy, but it'd better learn how to fly soon.
