NWS Baltimore MD/WASH DC
340 AM EDT Sun Apr 13 2025
NEAR TERM
Early morning showers along/east of I-95 have now mostly dissipated. Some patchy drizzle persists through sunrise as an area of low pressure well offshore continues to move away. A weak area of high pressure quickly moves through the region through tonight. A disorganized/weak disturbance aloft reaches the Alleghenies tonight, bringing isolated to scattered showers in the mountains. This activity is expected to last for only a few hours. Otherwise, dry conditions today and tonight. Highs this afternoon reach the low to mid 60s, then lows tonight drop to the 40s.
MARINE
Northwesterly winds remain elevated across all the waters today, with gusts around 20-25 knots through this afternoon. Winds diminish this evening, and remain below SCA levels through Monday evening.
Isolated strong thunderstorms capable of producing wind gusts in excess of 35 knots and hail are possible Monday evening. If these storms reach the waters, Special Marine Warnings are likely going to be needed for some areas.
A cold front moves through Monday night, then strong winds develop behind the front on Tuesday. SCA conditions are likely, with gale conditions possible Tuesday afternoon into Tuesday night…

MARINE
Hazardous marine conditions continue through today as an area of low pressure offshore of the Delmarva continues to slowly move away from the area. Small Craft Advisories remain in effect for all the waters through late afternoon, then drop off for the middle/upper Potomac and northern Chesapeake Bay. Northerly channeling tonight through Sunday afternoon maintains SCA conditions over the middle Chesapeake Bay.
Winds finally drop below SCA levels early Sunday evening and remain that way for most of Monday. South to southwest winds then increase again Monday evening into Monday night, with another round of SCA conditions likely.
SCA conditions are expected Tue into Thu morning due to gusty NW winds behind a frontal passage.
Area Forecast Discussion
NWS Baltimore MD/WASH DC
352 AM EDT Sat Apr 12 2025
NEAR TERM
A surface low offshore of the Delmarva early this morning slowly tracks northeast away from the area through the day, eventually weakening as upper level support wanes. Locally, early morning rain from DC to northeast MD wanes through the morning, with most of the precip ending by noon. Expect precip to transition from stratiform rain to convective showers. Some snow mixing in at the highest elevations of the Alleghenies could result in a coating of snow on grassy surfaces above 3KFT through late morning.
A few hours of mostly dry conditions early to mid afternoon, then another round of scattered showers move across the area from late afternoon to early evening. Coverage remains on the low side, so only have around 20-30 pct chance for rain. These showers should be quick moving, so any rainfall accumulation is going to be minimal.
Cloudy skies hang around the whole day, though a few peaks of sunshine are possible in the southern half of the area. Highs today reach the 50s for most, with 40s for the mountains and far northeast MD. Showers come to an end this evening, with dry conditions overnight. Temperatures fall to the 30s to low 40s. A few spots in the Central Shenandoah Valley could approach freezing come Sunday morning.
