I am looking for an Email Provider that isn’t based in the US (so not Nadir or Riseup) and that is not owned by big tech companies. After some research (european-alternatives.eu/alternative-to/gmail), I have found two options:
* Posteo
* Proton
Has anyone used either of these? I would love to hear your thoughts on which is better and why. If you have any other recommendations, please feel free to share them!

Hey where’s that reply guy who insisted that my iphone didn’t tell Carter’s baby clothes that I hadn’t logged a period in 4 months a couple days after the notification (that I don’t have turned on for the health app) showed up asking me if I forgot to log one.

Jonathan Vanian and Ashley Capoot reveal Reddit's bold move against AI startup Anthropic. The lawsuit, filed in San Francisco, accuses Anthropic of unlawfully using user data for AI training, harming Reddit's business. Data privacy is important for everyone. But for some marginalized populations, data privacy is indispensable for social connection, access to information, and physical safety.

This article is part one of a series for Pride month, focusing on topics at the intersection of data privacy and LGBTQ+ experiences.

This is focused on New Mexicans, but if you want to understand the overall current landscape for digital privacy in the US, I wrote about that for @ProgressNowNM: progressnownm.org/hidden-harms

The piece digs into:

- How data is collected and used

- The risks/harms (baked into our everyday lives in ways we don't realize)

- Three keys for what good, sensible reform looks like

ProgressNow New Mexico · Hidden Harms: NM Legislature dropped the ball on digital privacy, here’s what we can do about itThe misuse of data is rampant. Our state legislature can lead in protecting the sensitive personal information of all New Mexicans.

New privacy law:

"Oregon set to ban sale of precise location data"

pluribusnews.com/news-and-even

"Oregon lawmakers have approved a ban on the sale of a person’s precise geolocation, the latest effort by a state to restrict how one’s data is harvested and monetized.

The bill, which achieved final passage Tuesday after unanimous votes in both chambers, also prohibits the sale of minors’ personal data if they are under 16."

Cloudflare or not Cloudflare? I have to confess I've been using it for a while, and while I do enjoy its multiple benefits (proxy, WAF, DNS management, security rules, automatic email obfuscation...), I dont like the idea of transmitting all the data through a 3rd party, especially based in the USA.

Mastodon tech people, I summon you!

What are your thoughts?
Do you use Cloudflare?
Or is it a non negociable no to you?
Have you tried European based solutions like Bunny.net?
Do you just live without such tools?

I'm interested in hearing your thoughts!
Boosts appreciated :boost_request:

Quo vadis, EU? ec.europa.eu/info/law/better-r

Tried to delete my Airbnb account. Saw a "Deactivate" button and thought - wow, guess I was wrong about corporations going out of their way to hold on to their property (your data).

But nope, turns out deletion is a separate process.

Airbnb: "Just contact support to reactivate."
Support: "Please login."
Support: "Sorry, you can’t login, this account is deactivated." 🤷‍♂️

Love a good dark pattern.

You know the terms of service you don't read but accept? Here's a great website that summarises what you've agreed to.

It includes platforms and services like LinkedIn, Facebook, Amazon, Reddit, Wikipedia, and many, many more.

Read it and weep.

Or just switch platforms to more ethical providers, if you can.
