Florian Schmidt<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mastodon.social/@aldi80s" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>aldi80s</span></a></span> A few of my favourite tools in <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Obsidian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Obsidian</span></a> are:<br>- The Journal plugin for making a new note every day. This can help greatly getting into the flow of entering things.<br>- Note Refactor plugin: To split out headings to their own notes, or to merge notes together<br>- <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/DataView" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DataView</span></a> plugin to quickly list notes with certain attributes (e.g. all movies above 90 min length that I watched for more than 50%). Some of this is now covered by the new "bases" feature.</p>
Florian Schmidt<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mastodon.social/@thomas_mathoi" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>thomas_mathoi</span></a></span> Gerade noch rechtzeitig! Ich war schon kurz davor, Join Tables mittels einer Sammlung von einzelnen Notes und <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/DataView" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DataView</span></a> zu emulieren 😅</p>
David Prieto (valerian32)<p>Help, people from <a href="https://peoplemaking.games/tags/obsidian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>obsidian</span></a> that know a bit of <a href="https://peoplemaking.games/tags/dataview" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>dataview</span></a>. I'm trying to make a query that finds papers (those are notes with a tag that says paper) that are from different countries. But countries are a field in the institution, a note that is linked from the paper. How can I do this kind of thing? </p><p>Thanks in advance. <a href="https://peoplemaking.games/tags/fediTips" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>fediTips</span></a> <a href="https://peoplemaking.games/tags/fediHelp" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>fediHelp</span></a></p>
Mark McElroy<p>Me, a year ago: "I'll never use <a href="https://pkm.social/tags/dataview" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>dataview</span></a> in <a href="https://pkm.social/tags/ObsidianMD" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ObsidianMD</span></a>! It's too complicated!”</p><p>Me, now, with ChatGPT writing queries for me: “Look at me! I'm a Dataview Ninja!”</p>
Lukas<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://fosstodon.org/@sotneStatue" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>sotneStatue</span></a></span> I switched from <a href="https://swiss.social/tags/Notion" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Notion</span></a> to <a href="https://swiss.social/tags/Obsidian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Obsidian</span></a> mostly because I found it very problematic that all my data is just on some server somewhere in a format which is really hard to integrate into another system, and their mobile app was very sluggish when trying to edit something. <br>If database views are part of your workflow, I can see how getting <a href="https://swiss.social/tags/dataview" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>dataview</span></a> to act in the same way, is a bit more work than what Notion provides.</p>
Capybara :fedora:<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mastodon.social/@dhry" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>dhry</span></a></span> creating files is easy, getting <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/dataview" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>dataview</span></a> to show me what I want is not</p>
Capybara :fedora:<p>Some news from my side: I abandoned <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/obsidian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>obsidian</span></a></p><p>After 1 year using it, I was forced to use <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/notion" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>notion</span></a> for work and it is so much easier. Because the learning curve it Obsidian was so steep for me, experimenting and creating databases using <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/dataview" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>dataview</span></a> was so hard.</p><p>Notion is way simpler and trying new things until I found my work flow was very easy</p><p>Maybe in the future I may try to implement my notion workflow back into Obsidian....</p>

andrés.<p>Responses to my thread on different platforms have shown me the value of sites like Mastodon vs more traditional social media. The replies I got here were fewer, but I noticed that many more people got the point I was trying to make. It's not about stopping you from using a plugin or anything of the sort. The bigger point I'm trying to get at is that you should review the tools you use &amp; be *conscious* of your implementation, as well as how those align.</p><p><a href="https://pkm.social/tags/Obsidian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Obsidian</span></a> <a href="https://pkm.social/tags/dataview" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>dataview</span></a> <a href="https://pkm.social/tags/plugin" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>plugin</span></a> <a href="https://pkm.social/tags/pkm" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>pkm</span></a></p>

The Peter Pan of Nerdery™ 🇦🇺🏜️<p>Let the record show - today I installed <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Obsidian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Obsidian</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/dataview" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>dataview</span></a> for the first time.</p>
Elizabeth Tai | 戴秀铃 🇲🇾<p>I hated the idea of <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/Dataview" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Dataview</span></a> at first. I thought it was going to add complexity to my <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/Obsidian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Obsidian</span></a> vault. This impression was worsened by the many Youtubers who were showing me their souped up Obsidian systems. Now I'm glad I took the trouble to learn - Dataview can resurface Notes that I've completely forgotten about and automatically list Notes I've made. </p><p>I like Dataview now, but I doubt I'll use it beyond ordering my vault from utter chaos to manageable mess. 😆</p>
Elizabeth Tai | 戴秀铃 🇲🇾<p>So happy I took the time to learn <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/Dataview" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Dataview</span></a>. It's going to be revolutionary for my vault. It'll help me create main topic pages to keep track of my notes. I used to manually link every note to a "MOC" but I kept forgetting and found it tedious. This is going to be a "leave it and let grow" thing, and it suits my <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/ADHD" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ADHD</span></a> brain immensely lol.<br>And how great it is that the <br><a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/Obsidian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Obsidian</span></a> anticipated our annoyance with YAML and come up with the properties feature? Genius.</p>
