Today on Kyle Meredith With... we're going psycho killer throwback—I’m revisiting my interviews with #DavidByrne and #JerryHarrison.

We talk #TalkingHeads, their not-really-a-reunion reunion, abstract lyricism, big suits, big egos, and how to stay interesting when your band hasn’t existed since the Bush Sr. administration.

Hear it wherever you get podcasts. Or from a boom box on a burning house.

I love the peek into the creative process in this song. David Byrne once explained that he would sing gibberish over a groove when songwriting then flesh out the words later. In this “unfinished outtake” we hear both Byrne and Brian Eno singing different kinds of gibberish together… great song, too bad it didn’t get to a final version! But feel free to sing along with it anyway… #SongThatCameUpOnMyShuffleToday #music #davidbyrne #brianeno #talkingheads youtu.be/Mg-M0_-XyhM?si=es30AG

Today’s listening is ‘Uh-Oh’, the 1992 album by David Byrne.

This is another of Mr Byrne’s excellent recordings, full of lively, latin-tinged rhythms that are bound to get your toes tapping!

My favourite tracks are probably ‘Hanging Upside Down’ and the final track, ‘Somebody’.

I’m not quite sure about his ‘revelation’ that God spelled backwards is Dog, however….

Today’s listening is ‘The Knee Plays’, the 2007 album by David Byrne.

DB wrote the music and lyrics to The Knee Plays in 1984. They were a series of short, linked, theatrical performances which were intended to form part of a much larger piece called ‘The CIVIL warS’, by Robert Wilson.

The music comprises instrumental brass with percussion pieces, some having DB speaking.

It’s pretty quirky stuff and reminds me of his future collaboration with St. Vincent.
