WTAF! ‘#NoKings’ protest organizer calls #Texas #NationalGuard deployment an overreaction by Governor

by Cora Neas
Wed, June 11, 2025

AUSTIN (KXAN) — "A protest planned to occur at the Texas Capitol Saturday comes after Texas Governor #GregAbbott’s deployment of the state’s National Guard to #AustinTX and other Texas cities following a Monday night protest in the state’s capital city.

[...]

" 'Soldiers are on standby in areas where mass #demonstrations are planned in case they are needed,' reads part of Mahaleris’s statement. 'Texas will not tolerate the lawlessness we have seen in Los Angeles. Anyone engaging in acts of violence or damaging property will be swiftly held accountable to the full extent of the law.'

"The Monday night protest, organized by the Party for #Socialism and #Liberation, was held to show solidarity with #protesters in #LosAngeles.

"Saturday’s protest, ' #NoKings / #KickOutTheClowns,' is part of a nationwide action against a #MilitaryParade in #WashingtonDC, also on Saturday. The Austin rally is organized by Hands Off Central Texas (#HOCTX), a coalition of liberal activist groups such as #50501, #IndivisibleAustin, #IndivisibleRosedale, #ThirdAct Texas and #ResistAustin.

"#HandsOff Central Texas President Sophia Mirto said that the rally will feature speeches by activists and locally elected politicians, as well as performances."

Yahoo News · ‘No Kings’ protest organizer calls Texas National Guard deployment an overreaction by GovernorBy Cora Neas

"Weapons dubbed “less lethal” are once again being used in Los Angeles, this time against people protesting the Trump administration’s immigration raids.

During the 2020 protests sparked by the police killing of George Floyd, KFF Health News and USA Today documented the harm that rubber bullets and other “less lethal” projectiles can cause. Here’s what we found."

…At one point, #Trump invoked the unrest in #LosAngeles, where #demonstrations in response to #immigration #raids have at times turned violent. The president referred to the “governor of California” & “the mayor of Los Angeles,” which triggered boos from some in the audience directed at Gov. #GavinNewsom (D) & Mayor #KarenBass (D).

My cousin Karen posted this at Facebook:

So this administration had to take action with the National Guard, and then the US Marines, because California has an "incompetent Governor." Who determines the "incompetence"? And we all need to be concerned, not only about how this ends in California, but if it ends there.

I completely agree with Karen.

National politicians are failing us horridly. There is no organized opposition in DC and our Capitol Hill and DNC politicians are letting Trump have the stage all to himself. The lack of effort in Washington is as extreme as it is disgraceful. Evidently we can't expect to see leadership from Washington any time soon. We'll see real leadership in our city streets June 14.

What are rubber bullets? How painful are they?
By Dannielle Maguire and Hanan Dervisevic

Rubber bullets are softer and bigger than traditional bullets, but that doesn't mean they're completely harmless.

NATIONAL GUARD CALLED ON TO BE TRUMP'S GESTAPO IN LOS ANGELES
Mastodon Post

Attached is the text of a Facebook post about Trump's outrageous actions in Los Angeles. It makes for really important reading and I commend it to you. The illustration of a National Guard soldier on a Los Angeles street is described in the text.

As of early Sunday morning, there were no signs of any #NationalGuard troops on the streets as several #demonstrations appeared to be winding down.

#Protests against #immigration raids are scheduled to continue on Sunday, w/ one event at City Hall set for 2PM local time.

#Trump’s order is the first time since 1965 that a president has activated a state’s National Guard force without a request from that state’s governor.
