'Every strong upsurge of power in the public sphere, be it of a political or of a religious nature, infects a large part of humankind with stupidity,' he writes. It's become obvious that we are living through an age of great stupidity; the same social disorder that befell 1930s Germany has taken deep root in the US, Russia and China. Seine Gedanken zu Ethik, Verantwortung und zivilem Ungehorsam könnten uns Orientierung bieten, wenn wir darüber nachdenken, wie er den russischen Angriffskrieg gegen die Ukraine beurteilen und darauf reagieren würde.Bonhoeffers Ethik: Das Handeln im Angesicht des BösenBonhoeffer schrieb in seiner „Ethik“, dass echtes Christentum nicht in bloßer Abkehr vom Bösen besteht, sondern in mutigem Eingreifen. Seine berühmte Aussage, „Nicht nur die Opfer unter dem Rad zu verbinden, sondern dem Rad selbst in die Speichen zu fallen“, wäre ein zentraler Leitgedanke seines Denkens heute. Der Mut zur Tat war für Bonhoeffer essenziell – selbst wenn dies persönliches Risiko bedeutete. Eine Kirche, die sich nicht eindeutig gegen Aggression und Unrecht ausspricht, verrät nach Bonhoeffer ihren Auftrag.Hoffnung auf VersöhnungTrotz seiner entschiedenen Haltung gegen das Böse war Bonhoeffer auch ein Verfechter der Versöhnung. In seinen Briefen aus dem Gefängnis schrieb er: „Frieden ist nicht die Abwesenheit von Konflikten, sondern das mutige Streben nach Gerechtigkeit.“ Auch im Kontext des russischen Angriffskriegs gegen die Ukraine könnte Bonhoeffer langfristig auf Versöhnung und Heilung hinwirken, ohne dabei das Unrecht zu verharmlosen. For anyone unfamiliar, Bonhoeffer was a Lutheran minister imprisoned & later murdered by the Nazis for his work w/the 🇩🇪 resistance & helping ✡️ people escape. He was all too familiar with the subject matter & the nightmare results of stupidity combined with &/or exploited by evil.
