👋 Hello Mastodon!

We are KISHIB – Digital Corpus of Ancient West Asian Seals and Sealings.

Our project documents thousands of Mesopotamian seals and sealings in digital form, making them accessible for research and the public.

Expect insights into archaeology, digital methods, and the fascinating world of cylinder seals!

@tomw @mms @aslakr @Edent XSLT has a huge user base in the #DigitalHumanities community. Not all are using client-side XSLT, but some are. E.g., there is a popular project for rendering TEI-XML files in the browser using XSLT: github.com/TEI-Boilerplate/TEI I have used XSLT for a digital edition: pages.ceres.rub.de/ayn-al-naza Some have moved to other techniques, like CETEIcean, but long-term availability is a huge issue for digital humanities projects, so killing them is not a great move.

A slightly updated #introduction as I'm closing out my tiny private instance and moving here.

I had stepped away for a bit, so I am hoping the move here really pushes me to refocus and re-engage with communities on Mastodon.

As for who I am:

I'm a researcher, writer, and developer living in Minnesota. I have a PhD in #TechComm with research interests in the #digitalhumanities and the #sociotechnical histories surrounding technology.

I work primarily in the #civictech and #nonprofit space helping organizations tackling homelessness.

I also talk a lot about #poetry , #art, and the random #ttrpg.

I am looking forward to re-connecting!

'I don't: I'm sick of trying to define it. When forced to, I'll make the referent the people instead of the ideas or methods -- Digital Humanities is the thing practiced by people who self-identify as Digital Humanists. It's helpful to have a name for the field chiefly for institutional authority. Though granted I think it does involve coding / making / building / doing things with computers, things related to, you know, the humanities.' Amanda French 01.01.2011 #DigitalHumanities #WhatIsDH

Doing History in Public: Web Archives as Big Data: experimenting with the internet as a historical source. “One very interesting aspect of historical research through web sources is that content cannot be disentangled from methodology. I had no previous experience dealing with the internet as a historical source, and this represented a unique opportunity to plunge into this new type of archive, […]

Gizmodo: Why AI Shouldn’t Replace Historians Anytime Soon. “…after I tested generative AI tools with some historical facts, it seems like historians shouldn’t worry too much about the robots taking over just yet. At the very least, they shouldn’t be afraid that AI could do their job well.”

🛠️ Relational Databases with NocoDB in the humanities

Was just watching a recording of the second day of #Wikimania in #Nairobi and happened on a #Wikidata presentation. A member of the audience suggested a tool registry to be implemented on top of Wikidata during the Q&A. As comments are disabled for the recordings (on YouTube), I would like to mention our modest effort at building exactly such a tool registry for the #DigitalHumanities.

The project website can be found at wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Wik

🔍 Research resources in archaeology and the humanities are rich, web-based, and constantly evolving, but they often lack reliable, citable versions of their content.

💡 CiVers develops tools to generate versioned snapshots of web resources and assign Persistent Identifiers (PIDs) for precise, long-term citation without changing existing web application infrastructures.
