Did you know...

That there was a Warheads Sour! Green Apple Soda? Neither did I until I found it at the Dollar Tree.

I mean, I just had to try it. I love gimmicky sodas, even if they end up tasting terrible. This one, though, was a big surprise.

I poured some out for myself and each of my kids. We all took a sip and, at once, recognize that it tasted like biting into a sweet, green apple. No sour taste or aftertaste. It just tasted like a sweet, green apple. Weirdly realistic flavor, even more so than a regular green apple candy.

Looking at the ingredients list, it had a all sorts of malic acid - so it SHOULD have been sour. But, to us - no sourness. Just sweetness. The kids really liked it. We may be looking for it again next Dollar Tree visit.

TL;DR - Warheads Sour! Green Apple Soda is better than it has any right to be, actually tasting like a green apple and not very sour. Would drink again.

#Cheap #DIY #Dollarstore #Drybox - First Attempt - less than 15 Euros.

Key components: sealed plastic container, silica gel beads, optional hygrometer.

Placed on a radiator, I get a reading of ~30°C and <20% humidity what should be sufficient for overnight drying of headphones or other devices that were exposed to humid environments.

Caution: Extended exposure to conditions stated above can damage certain materials, such as rubber and plastics, causing them to dry out and become brittle.

I finally got around to listening to this episode of Strong Towns podcast from last June about dollar store chains as an invasive species, and of how big-box stores act like slash-and-burn agriculture in communities, and it has given me my daily dose of anger. Stacey Mitchell of the Institute for Local Self-Reliance is the guest, and brings a lot of data and perspective.

*Whether you're burying a loved one, getting dialysis, getting your cat fixed or having your dog's nails trimmed, you are already likely to be patronizing a business that has been captured by private equity, where the service is worse, the prices are higher and the workers earn less for harder jobs. *

Dollar stores were the fastest-growing food retailers by household expenditure share between 2008 to 2020 in the United States according to new research from Tufts University. While they still represent a small fraction of national household food purchases, they play an increasingly prominent role for disadvantaged and rural communities. Public health experts are concerned about the impact these increases could have on regions that already experience higher baseline levels of obesity and food insecurity.
