I was extremely active, in my career and going to school (because I could tell the easy mortgage days we’re coming to an end in 2004, I was in funding instead of processing at that point, but still . . .) </p><p>It took me more than half a year to heal enough to get out of bed and go back to work because I kept trying to push through because I didn’t know I had mono until my PCP sent me to psychiatry because they insisted it was mental illness. After 30 minutes he knew it was mono and sent me to the lab. Not mental illness.</p><p>Anyway, everything was great. I was still getting some PEM at the end of my work week but I thought that was just because I was in my 30s. I thought it was normal to feel hung over on Saturday mornings even if I just went home on Friday night and went to bed after work. I thought that was just what being mid 30 was about.</p><p>Then I was in a car accident in 2012 that wrecked some discs in my neck and I woke up feeling like I had mono all over again. And it has never gone away. Maggie Maybe<p>Also, not covid related, but I saw this the other day. It makes me wonder if a whole bunch of women have been diagnosed with herpes when they actually don’t have herpes. I had a friend tell me about how she was diagnosed with herpes in a college health center even though they didn’t swab her or take blood. For years she would disclose to everyone she was dating and then once she left college and got health insurance and saw a real doctor about it they found that she didn’t have herpes. Halle Berry was diagnosed with herpes until they did tests and realized it was dry vagina from perimenopause. </p><p>How many women are walking around thinking they actually have genital herpes just because of their EBV infection? You would think that they would get follow up blood work, but it wasn’t until about 2009 that I realized if you go to an STD clinic and say “test me for everything!” they don’t test you for herpes. If you’re not looking at those results you wouldn’t know. Maggie Maybe<p>I appreciate this article so much because just yesterday I was complaining to somebody about how I don’t understand the point of the shingles vaccine if the varicella zoster virus is already in me how does adding a little bit more help me?</p><p>But then this paragraph made it make sense. I think the most enraging thing about trying to talk to doctors about EBV and reactivated EBV is that they insist that there’s no point in testing for these things because everybody has it. I didn’t get EBV until I was 31 years old, so no everybody doesn’t have it until you actually infect them with it.</p><p>They do the same thing with covid. “No point in preventing it, everyone had had it.” No we fucking have not. And it’s extra weird to see sciencey people insist that us <a href="https://zeroes.ca/tags/novids" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>novids</span></a> are in denial and we all had asymptomatic cases already. Not us “already sick” people.
