I just found out that there are people who have been switching from Kindle to Kobo because somebody somewhere said that it's indie and now there are people who think that's true. Friends, Kobo is owned by a Japanese billionaire and under the umbrella of a huge Japanese conglomerate.

While it's true that it started out as a small company in Toronto, it's most certainly not indie now (and hasn't been for many years). I hope that wasn't the main reason you chose it as your alternative, because you were lied to.

Disclaimer: I have a Kobo device and I buy the majority of my ebooks through their store. This post isn't a moral judgment. I'll just feel bad if somebody chooses it as their alternative based on false information.

I'm devastated that Pocket will be dropped soon. That's the main thing I use on my Kobo e-reader and the main reason I chose Kobo. I'm even looking to upgrade to a colour version. I'll have to look for some workaround, which may be possible with Libra colour since it has google drive integration...it's a big maybe.

I got a hand me down 2015 Kindle Paperwhite from my daughter—is that a hand-me-up?—after we upgraded her to a new Kobo Libra Color.

I used #WinterBreak to jailbreak and got #KOReader installed and it’s a nice little reader that syncs easily with Calibre. No Amazon involved.

The Kobo Libra is an extremely nice #eReader with great integration with Overdrive/Libby to get library books, but if you’re looking to get something on the cheap and save some ewaste, I can recommend jailbreaking a kindle

Losing the Pocket service has put a serious dent in how I process information from the web.

Dammit.

Have reinvigorated an old Instagram account which fixes 90% of the problems I was having but doesn't fix the issue of reading things on my Kobo ereader.

Ah well onwards and upwards..

Ooo lookie! Not sure when this version will be released, but...

Ich brauch mal eure Tipps. Ich will mir nen neuen #eReader zulegen. Kein K*ndle, sollte aber K*ndle eBooks lesen können, da ich leider viele habe. Außerdem möchte ich auf Fernleihe von Bibliotheken zugreifen können und er sollte leicht, nicht zu groß und nicht zu teuer sein.

Anyone have an eink writing device? I'm looking into them. Portability is important to me for notes, so the 10s seem large. But the only smaller device that seems highly recommended is the Nomad. Is that my best option?

Could anyone share recommendations for a Remarkable-like notepad/e-reader please?

My head is swimming with options and I keep forgetting details of each model I look at (I'm low on spoons!).

Looking for:
* #Privacy 1st (will use entirely offline so no cloud requirements)
* Must be able to plug into a PC by USB to drag and drop PDF's & epubs on
* #Calibre friendly
* Easy obtainable and fitting of replacement batteries
* Colour would be nice

Thank you!

Maybe a long shot, but has anyone gotten KOReader and Nickelmenu running on a converted Tolino to Kobo ereader? Originally branded as a Tolino Shine Color and currently running as a Kobo Clara Colour. Usually it's straightforward on native Kobo (Linux) and works after some jumping through hoops on older Tolinos (Android) but this one has me stuck. It's pretty much Kobo, but not all? I have already visited GitHub, Mobileread and e-reader-forum (de).

My unpopular opinion of the day: I prefer my #ttrpg books (.pdf files, specifically) to be single-column per page. I realize multiple columns per page means less pages for printing, but it's also smaller fonts and more fiddling with ereader settings to make the thing readable.

If you're a games maker, and single column doesn't work for you, consider including an epub version of your books, if possible. Those are much easier to adjust. Just a suggestion/plea.
