Just received this from PM Press! Andrew Nette and Sam Deighan have crafted a brilliant compendium of post-war political cinema from France, Japan, Germany, Iran, Hong Kong, Egypt, Czechoslovakia and more that places highly regarded directors like Godard and Costa-Gavras alongside maligned genres like Spaghetti Westerns, Poliziotteschi, Blaxploitation and Rape / Revenge and contextualizes them within the often violent political resistance and liberation movements happening off screen. Full color film posters and stills are placed next to contributions from film historians and critics and discussions of events like the Vietnam War , the rise of Feminism and postcolonial struggles. Films discussed include personal favorites and many hard to find gems I can't wait to discover!
