…having 4 jobs also raises practical issues: Does #Rubio get a pay bump? Will he have time to hop around the globe to do diplomacy? How will he delegate his duties?

There are precedents—sort of. 1973–1975, Henry Kissinger held 2 of Rubio’s jobs, Secy of #State & #NationalSecurity adviser, in an experiment considered a #failure. In the current #Trump admin, #KashPatel, #FBI dir, & #DanielDriscoll, #Army Secy, have both been interim head of the #ATF while also serving in their prominent posts.

I’m not sharing this because I’m mentioned in it but because if you are interested in research culture and how we process failure it is a difficult but worthwhile listen (and I came across it because I was mentioned when it was shared elsewhere). I won’t content warning this as my colleague Taryn does that at the beginning of the episode better than I can.

It was an odd listen because I know the interviewer and interviewee but only knew a tiny part of the human story at its heart.

"After 100 days, Trump has destroyed Trumpism.

The president’s approach: tackle problems that don’t exist via policies that won’t work. ...

Trump’s pattern is predictably monotonous. First, he claims omnipotence: 'I alone can fix it.'"

"But they are starting to notice that his recklessness means their chips are down.

Whether it is court decisions, nominees, or taxing everyday American consumers, Trump seems so wedded to boneheaded ideas that he might continue insisting on upping the ante rather than cutting his losses. In doing so, he will likely wipe out a table of Republicans who have stood by him but will soon have to stand for reelection."

"The MAGA cult once revered Trump’s belligerence and refusal to recognize reality. They interpreted that as 'strength.' When he defied informed, sane advice—be it on the budget or Ukraine—the same people who refused to get vaccinated or wear masks during Covid ('You’re not the boss of me!') cheered. Trump channeled their contempt for elite opinion, expertise, and science."

"Late Friday afternoon, the New York Times dropped a new poll, and this time, it’s bad news for Donald Trump. ...

Trump’s approval rating is pitiful, but that’s not the biggest story. Trump has been unpopular before, but this poll shows something much more alarming for Trump (and encouraging for America) – a fundamental rejection of the entire premise of his presidency."

“The #Labor MP #JeromeLaxale has expressed his “disappointment” in the #Albanese government’s #failure to restrict #gambling #ads and called on the party to “honour the legacy” of the late #PetaMurphy if re-elected.

Laxale, a left-faction MP who is trying to hold on to the ultra-marginal New South Wales seat of #Bennelong, said he was “sick of seeing betting odds linked to live sport” and told #voters in his #electorate there was “a strong #reform package coming”.

The Albanese government has not taken changes to #gambling #regulation to this election and has faced sustained criticism from #PublicHealth experts and political pressure for shelving plans to restrict gambling ads, in the face of opposition from #sporting codes and #broadcasters.”

America’s commander-in-belief tells The Times about trying to stop the president swearing and why the UK has become ‘like Russia at the height of communism’

What a thankless role! But he doesn’t worry, His hypocrisy will carry him through and allow him to sleep at night.

What bit of the ‘teachings of Jesus’ do these religious types actually believe in and attempt to emulate?
