🔴 Orban Targets Rival with New Law

🔸 Parliament passed law to remove MEPs over asset declaration failures—seen as aimed at Peter Magyar.
🔸 Magyar leads new Tisza Party, rising fast by opposing inflation & Fidesz policies.
🔸 Law allows electoral body to dismiss MEPs for incomplete disclosures.

Hungary: Why is Viktor Orbán's opponent so successful?

A former Fidesz backer who now opposes Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, Peter Magyar is Hungary's most popular politician. His Tisza party is well ahead of Orbán's Fidesz in the polls.

Who is he, and how did he find success?

Hungary passes constitutional changes targeting LGBTQ rights.

Hungarian lawmakers on Monday voted to approve new constitutional changes proposed by the populist ruling party that target the LGBTQ community, including codifying into law a ban on Pride events, and a provision proclaiming that people can only be male or female.

The new amendments were pushed through by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's Fidesz party.

Hungary's opposition #Tisza party has a small lead over the ruling #Fidesz party,
according to an opinion poll published on Thursday,
the second survey this week to show Tisza overtaking Prime Minister Viktor Orban's party.

Centre-right Tisza's leader,
Peter Magyar, a former government insider,
swept into Hungarian politics before June's European Parliament elections
when he mounted a serious challenge to Orban,
capitalising on discontent with other opposition parties.

Listening to the wind of change in #Budapest

#PeterMagyar rises in the polls and discontent with #Kremlin bootlicker #Orban grows

Orban will pull dirty tricks

But the world is closing in

"Thousands of Hungarians protest against #Pride ban law

Waving Hungarian and rainbow flags... more than 10,000 people gathered in central Budapest"

Take me to the magic of the moment:

April 2026

#Orban bans #Pride from Hungary on grounds of the Russia-inspired law on “protecting” minors from homosexuality and “woke ideology”.
Right of assembly limited to events “respecting the right of children to proper physical, mental and moral development”, under a 500€ fine.
Facial recognition is allowed for police to use due to the importance of the crime.

Orbán tries to ban Pride in Hungary as polls show rival Magyar surging.

Fidesz says it’s trying to prohibit Pride to keep children safe from the LGBTQ+ agenda, but opponents say the prime minister’s party is trying to create a wedge issue.

The majority of Hungarian voters wouldn’t support a ban on Pride. According to a poll, only 36% of voters support banning the march, while 56% would keep it open.

@skykiss Any sources?

Rather than mass protests breaking out in #Budapest, it rather seems [1] that on the national day #NemzetiÜnnep (yesterday) celebrating the 1848 revolution [2], the crowds for #Tisza were bigger than those for #Fidesz . This is consistent with the polling trajectory for the April 2026 election [3] - it *does* look like Fidesz/#Orbán might finally lose power.

#Europe must suspend #Hungarian voting #rights as soon as possible. The #EU and the whole #freeWorld is now facing a time full of #difficulties and threats both from the outside (#Russia, #China, #USA) and inside (#Fidesz, #AfD, #Konfederacja and more). Due to that fact Europe must be #united like never before. We must speak with one voice. We must consolidate our efforts. We must create a #EuropeanArmy. We must #federaliseEurope, because there is no place for small countries in the new reality.

#Palestine-Israel / Israel abandons diaspora Jews' fight against real antisemitism to join forces with Europes’s antisemitic and islamophobic far right

Israel’s Diaspora Affairs Ministry (Amichai Chikli) is inviting representatives from parties with histories of #antisemitism and current Islamophobic positions to a conference specifically about combating antisemitism, titled The International Conference on Combating Antisemitism, further undermining the credibility of frameworks like the #IHRA definition.

Shared Islamophobia is becoming a unifying factor between Israel's government and European far-right movements, previously rejected by Jewish communities as antisemitic or Neo-Nazi.
