Hungarian lawmakers on Monday voted to approve new constitutional changes proposed by the populist ruling party that target the LGBTQ community, including codifying into law a ban on Pride events, and a provision proclaiming that people can only be male or female.

Hungary's opposition #Tisza party has a small lead over the ruling #Fidesz party,
according to an opinion poll published on Thursday,
the second survey this week to show Tisza overtaking Prime Minister Viktor Orban's party.
Centre-right Tisza's leader,
Peter Magyar, a former government insider,
swept into Hungarian politics before June's European Parliament elections
when he mounted a serious challenge to Orban,
capitalising on discontent with other opposition parties.
This is pretty crazy and I'm not sure if #Orban can even do anything, legal ot illegal, at this point.

Orbán tries to ban Pride in Hungary as polls show rival Magyar surging.
Fidesz says it’s trying to prohibit Pride to keep children safe from the LGBTQ+ agenda, but opponents say the prime minister’s party is trying to create a wedge issue.
The majority of Hungarian voters wouldn’t support a ban on Pride. According to a poll, only 36% of voters support banning the march, while 56% would keep it open.

Rather than mass protests breaking out in #Budapest, it rather seems [1] that on the national day #NemzetiÜnnep (yesterday) celebrating the 1848 revolution [2], the crowds for #Tisza were bigger than those for #Fidesz . This is consistent with the polling trajectory for the April 2026 election [3] - it *does* look like Fidesz/#Orbán might finally lose power.

#Europe must suspend #Hungarian voting #rights as soon as possible. The #EU and the whole #freeWorld is now facing a time full of #difficulties and threats both from the outside (#Russia, #China, #USA) and inside (#Fidesz, #AfD, #Konfederacja and more). Due to that fact Europe must be #united like never before. We must speak with one voice. We must consolidate our efforts. We must create a #EuropeanArmy.
