Notorious S.A.M.<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mastodon.gamedev.place/@eniko" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>eniko</span></a></span> O.K. I'm a bit tired of the "Vivaldi is just Chrome" brush off. Here's why. Fight me for it.</p><p>Vivaldi is NOT just another Chrome clone.</p><p>Vivaldi is based on Chromium, which is open-source, and all the<br>improvements they make to this code are published under the same open-<br>source license. That’s roughly 95% of the<br>code. The remaining 5%, related to Vivaldi's UI, remains proprietary to this<br>day.</p><p>Vivaldi does not collect user data and unlike other browsers, Vivaldi does<br>not sell data to advertisers and others willing to pay for it. Vivaldi doesn’t<br>even know how you use the browser.<br>Your synced data? End-to-end <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/encrypted" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>encrypted</span></a>.<br>Your browsing? Protected with built-in tracker and ad blocking.<br>Your <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/privacy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>privacy</span></a>? Respected, always.</p><p>Vivaldi isn’t built for advertisers. It’s built for you. That means no profiling,<br>no tracking, and no trade-offs on features.</p><p>Vivaldi has its own built-in <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/adblocker" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>adblocker</span></a>. Users are in full control to decide what level of<br>blocking they want and can fine-tune it with custom block lists.</p><p>Vivaldi is <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/free" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>free</span></a> and there is no catch. No hidden costs, no tracking-<br>based business model.</p>
