And I know, I don't need my own server to be able to read news, but I just want to. I'm like that :)</p><p>I'll figure it out eventually, I haven't really tried in earnest yet. Looking at cnews + nntpd on <a href="https://friends.chasmcity.net/search?tag=FreeBSD" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FreeBSD</span></a>.</p>

Justine SmithiesGave up on <a href="https://snac.smithies.me.uk?t=openbsd" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#OpenBSD</a> for now as it's too locked down for my liking and I was really wanting to setup <a href="https://snac.smithies.me.uk?t=xorg" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Xorg</a> on the freebie Dell Optiplex 3080 Tower and use <a href="https://snac.smithies.me.uk?t=xterm" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Xterm</a> as my terminal with <a href="https://snac.smithies.me.uk?t=sixel" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Sixel</a> support. So I've installed <a href="https://snac.smithies.me.uk?t=freebsd" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#FreeBSD</a> and got Xterm running with Sixel support ( graphics in the terminal ). I just realised how underpowered the old one was. 😅</p>

Justine SmithiesStill running <a href="https://snac.smithies.me.uk?t=openbsd" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#OpenBSD</a> on the old Dell Optiplex 3080 tower and finding little quirks / differences from what I'm used to using <a href="https://snac.smithies.me.uk?t=freebsd" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#FreeBSD</a> on my <a href="https://snac.smithies.me.uk?t=thinkpad" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#ThinkPad</a>. But overall I have not yet been put off and persist when something doesn't work like I thought it should. Just learnt that I needed to install <code>colorls</code> and alias it to <code>ls</code> so I could get color output in the terminal when typing <code>ls</code>. But I then found that in the normal tty before I started X11 that I even though that alias was present it did not give me color output. After digging through the www I found a suggestion to put the following line in my <code>.profile</code> :<br><br><pre>export TERM=wsvt25<br></pre>Rebooted to be sure and voila I get a color listing in both the tty and a <a href="https://snac.smithies.me.uk?t=kitty" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#kitty</a> terminal under <a href="https://snac.smithies.me.uk?t=x11" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#X11</a> .<br>I'm sure that I'll learn heaps more as I plod along but it is good. <a href="https://snac.smithies.me.uk?t=runbsd" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#RunBSD</a><br>
