#GPD :

:blob_sweat:

@radmin @tera @critakitty yeah, @frameworkcomputer refusing to make a #TrackPoint keyboard is kinda sad.

  • Cuz it's not as if they can't make a call at #Sprintek and maybe even get a custom-coloured rubber cap just to avoid #Lenovo claiming they violate the #UltraNav design / trademark.

Not to mention this isn't unique to even #ThinkPad or #hp #ProBook or #Dell #Latitude & #Getac devices, but even #Sony (#Vaio #P11Z) and #GPD did so...

  • I hope they at least got a holder-hole and lanyard loop option for the #Stylus like the #X230Tablet has...

Small Linux laptop for sale!

I'm going to get serious about buying a new laptop, which means I have an old one to sell. Take a look if you might be interested.

GPD Pocket
Processor: Intel Atom x7-Z8750 @ 1.6 GHz (Turbo 2.56 GHz)
RAM: 8GB
Storage: 128 GB
Screen: 7 inch multi-touch with 1920x1200 display
Battery: 7000 mAh Li-po
Network: 802.11 a ac b g n
Weight: 1.06 pounds
Ports:
1x USB Type-C 3.0
1x USB Type-A 3.0
Type HDMI D
3.5 mm headphone jack

It's really quite a nice little Linux machine. It's just too small and too slow for the day to day development work that I want to be able to do.

A few things to note:

This is a small laptop; the screen is 7 inches! I believe the smallest MacBook Air has a 13-inch screen. This means it's super light (slightly over 1 pound) but has a tiny keyboard.

This is not a fast laptop; Atom processors are built for battery life, not speed, and this Atom is from 2017.

This is not a Windows laptop; I don't remember if it shipped with a Microsoft OS installed, but it certainly doesn't have one now. I have run Arch on this machine in the past, but I am in the process of installing Debian because I no longer use it often enough for a rolling release distro to make sense.

The system works. 8GB is enough to run i3 window manager and Firefox.

The battery works, but I don't know if it lasts longer than the hour that is my typical use case.

I do not have the original charger, but it's a fairly standard USB C. I can include an Amazon Basic tech sleeve that fits well. I can also include an adapter for the HDMI; HDMI D is a small connector, so I use an adapter to connect to a standard HDMI cable.

Because it has a USB C port as well as a USB A port and the HDMI port, you can charge it and still connect an external keyboard and external monitor.

I see these listed on Ebay for $240 before shipping, which seems ridiculous. I'm asking $150, from which I will pay for the shipping (contiguous US).

My thought is that a tech geek who likes small Linux machines might be interested. Because of the size and associated quirks, I would not suggest this for normal use unless you have good eyes and small hands.

Please DM if interested. Please boost!

#GPD is still creating interesting devices

I think the pocket 4 looks more interesting for myself, but still…

Sometimes it seems like all the large companies (dell, hp, apple, acer… somewhat less for lenovo or asus) have stopped innovating completely

all those things look identical to the thing I bought ~10 years ago

well, okay - in fact a lot of them actually look WORSE than my Yoga 900
