99% of the time, my main desktop/linux machine is working fine.

The rest of the time, I'm using 'Nvidia' as a perjorative.

Case in point: I get a notification I need to reboot my machine, due to a critical update. It's rare these pop up w/ livepatch, but not unheard of, and it takes like 30 seconds to reboot anyhow. Not exactly a big thing, I'll be back up and running in a jiff. No problem right?

Reboot finishes, and I'm at 1024x768, on a single monitor. None of the others. Fucking-

Okay, let's see. Maybe there's some package updates? Yep. A whole lot of 'libnvidia' packages need updating. It's about 600 megs. (At least it didn't take down networking this time so I didn't need to drop back to a previous kernel loadout.) Let it run. On a lark, reboot again. Everything is back as it was.

Goddamnit, Nvidia. I love telling people to game on linux, but shit like this *really* damages my enthusiasm.

I play a lot of TrackMania. It is a good activity I can do for 20 minutes at a time while being interrupted by my child. Lately he has been taking over my computer to play it. Recently I setup an older machine of mine with Linux Mint for him to watch videos on and today I installed TrackMania on it for him.

I've cursed him to be a nerd and a gamer, but he is having fun.

Started playing the Travellers Rest game. Yes, that game where you are own tavern and driving it to prosperity (or at least afloat). I decided to play with Ukrainian language, and even it is not my first language, I have a feel that translation is quite good.

Thanks to Proton Experimental I can run this game created for windows, at Ubuntu..

When I started with Dani's Race I thought that the extend of my programming will be something like dynamically changing the speed of a car and maybe loading and unloading certain things on the map based on the distance from them. But quickly it became a mind-field of math and other programming cleverness. A...

@gog and others with GOG and VR experience,

is there any guide on how to run VR games purchased on GOG under Linux?

I'm surprised I haven't found any useful guides to this question through search engines. My best guess is to add the games to Steam as external apps, and try my luck through Steam VR.

Now that I've got my VR setup up and running, I plan to get new titles. I'd much rather pay to a Polish company than send my hard-earned money to Trumpistan.
