More plant disease help please Masto #Gardeners

New young bare root crab apple (Jelly King), went in a couple of months ago - and has weird white mildew maybe on the top leaves. It’s been well watered - and maybe too much? But once a week for a good drink and none of the other trees are showing signs. Lower leaves look healthy.

Any ideas? I don’t think it could matter but it is the neighbour of the pear with red leaf blister mite…

Ideas?

#Arum plants start to flower. At the right Arum maculatum + Arum immaculatum (more in alt txt). Birds eat the seeds at the edge of the forest and plant them with their droppings into the gardens.

Arum immaculatum, flower: borne on a poker-shaped inflorescence called a spadix, which is partially enclosed in a pale green spathe or leaf-like hood. The spathe can be up to 25 cm high and the fruiting spike which follows later in the season may be up to 5 cm. The flowers are hidden from sight, clustered at the base of the spadix with a ring of female flowers at the bottom and a ring of male flowers above them.

Quick question to Masto #Gardeners

How can you know what tree might graft successfully onto another? I'd like to try a few. And I was wondering about a couple of frankenstein versions. But there have to be limits here. Presumably I can't grow a fig graft on an apple tree for eg?

OK, this is most specifically for my #CentralFlorida #gardeners - have any of you successfully grown Witch Hazel down here?

Like Hamamelis virginiana, not the ornamental loropetalum.

IFAS has it down to zone 8B, but I’ve seen other sources that have it all the way to 9B…

Having done a little more reading, I think that I need to actually understand some more about my soil chemistry. Sadly, where I live there is no agricultural support facility which can help.

So I need to do it myself. I have a P, K, N testing kit - which I am going to try.

But the symptoms I want to address are: 1) soft fruit doesn't taste great; 2) lack of bulb growth on a range of veg; 3) that's it.

I mulch deeply and regularly. But something is wrong...

"#Gardeners and #orchardists are invited to bring their seeds, #scionwood and #cuttings to share. If you don’t have any, come anyway!

"Community members and local seed growers regularly bring an incredible variety of vegetable, fruit, flower, and herb seeds. We also regularly have over 150+ types of scionwood to share, including scionwood sourced from MOFGA’s orchards. We will also have limited quantities of #rootstock for sale. Custom grafting is available by donation to the #MaineHeritageOrchard.
