Jonathan Kamens 86 47<p>Today’s episode of health insurance companies are bad and they should feel&nbsp;bad</p><p>About my struggle to get good therapy for a family member paid for by health insurance, with delays and difficulties caused by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts in particular and the business model of health insurance in general. This highlights the challenges many families face in accessing timely and affordable therapy.</p><p><a href="https://federate.social/tags/BCBSMA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BCBSMA</span></a> <a href="https://federate.social/tags/HDHP" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>HDHP</span></a> <a href="https://federate.social/tags/HealthInsurance" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>HealthInsurance</span></a> <a href="https://federate.social/tags/Massachusetts" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Massachusetts</span></a> <a href="https://federate.social/tags/MentalHealth" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MentalHealth</span></a></p><p><a href="https://blog.kamens.us/2023/12/28/todays-episode-of-health-insurance-companies-are-bad-and-they-should-feel-bad/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">blog.kamens.us/2023/12/28/toda</span><span class="invisible">ys-episode-of-health-insurance-companies-are-bad-and-they-should-feel-bad/</span></a></p>
Jonathan Kamens 86 47<p>I don't know who needs to hear this, but...<br>Before you sign up for a high deductible health plan (<a href="https://federate.social/tags/HDHP" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>HDHP</span></a>), ask the insurance company who administers the health savings account (<a href="https://federate.social/tags/HSA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>HSA</span></a>) that is linked to it.<br>If it's <a href="https://federate.social/tags/HSABank" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>HSABank</span></a>, a.k.a. <a href="https://federate.social/tags/WebsterBank" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>WebsterBank</span></a>, then I'm not going to tell you to choose a different insurance company, but you should at least factor into your decision the fact that, speaking from personal experience, HSA Bank is massively incompetent and a huge pain in the ass to deal with.</p>
Tanya Reynolds<p>It’s benefits enrollment time and I’m stressed out. After 35+ years of work we actually need the health insurance and while my paycheck “cost” isn’t going up, the deductible for the <a href="https://newsie.social/tags/Anthem" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Anthem</span></a> PPO went up, a lot. JL Johnson :veri_mast:<p>The interest rate on my health savings account is 0.03%. It has been steady for years. Despite the federal funds rate now being at 5%.
