Our favourite room in Frederiksborg Castle was the Great Hall. The fire that had swept through the castle in 1859 had almost entirely destroyed this room but architectural paintings were saved which allowed for a complete restoration of it to its former glory. On the left against the wall you can see a small minstrels gallery from where those below would be entertained.

A portrait view at one corner of a large, ornate hall used for entertaining guests. It's empty of any furnishings giving a clear view of the tiled marble flooring in geometric patterned squares and diamonds of black, white, and dusky red colours. On the near left wall, halfway along the length of the hall, there is a a black lacquered balcony above head height supported by thin, black, lacquered columns. The ceiling is very busy with decoration, formed within a chequerboard pattern of recessed and flat squares on which there are brown lacquered wooden trims, gold markings, and colourful artwork on roses or of cherubs. The walls are also heavily decorated on every surface with deep recesses to tall, narrow windows and on the wall space between the windows a portrait over descriptive writing hangs amongst all the intricate details around.
