Mette. Mein Herz. Sie ist echt mein Seelenhund. Hat mich sofort in ihren Bann gezogen. Obwohl sie so viel "sturer" war als meine erste Hündin, Bounty. Mette hat eben keinen so stark ausgeprägten "Will to please" wie Bounty. Sie hat einen eigenen Kopf, ist selbständiger, löst sich leichter von ihren Menschen und macht bei unseren Spaziergängen auch ganz gern mal ihr Ding. Während die Gruppe ansonsten zusammen bleibt, geht Mette ganz gern weit vorn. Und das ist okay. So lange sie nicht jagen geht. ;)

Mette. My heart. She really is my soul dog. I was immediately captivated by her. Although she was so much more ‘stubborn’ than my first dog, Bounty. Mette doesn't have such a strong ‘will to please’ as Bounty. She has a mind of her own, is more independent, detaches herself from her humans more easily and likes to do her own thing on our walks. Whilst the group otherwise stays together, Mette likes to walk far in front. And that's okay. As long as she doesn't go hunting ;)

Mette in der Heide in der Abendsonne. Was war das für ein Shooting. Die Mücken zuckten um Mette herum, sie hatte ständig welche auf der Nase, schnappte in die Luft und hatte ganz schnell gar keinen Bock mehr. Die Menschen schlugen sich mit den Händen auf die nackten Arme und Beine. Hach, Sommer ist schon was schönes. ;) Aber trotz allem ist unter anderem dieses wunderbare Foto dabei entstanden. Meine Mette. Mein Seelenhund.

Mette in the heath in the evening sun. What a shoot that was. The midges twitched around Mette, she constantly had them on her nose, snapped at the air and was quickly tired of standing/sitting still for photos. People were hitting their bare arms and legs with their hands to chase the midges away. Oh, summer is a beautiful thing ;) But despite everything, this wonderful photo was one of the results. My Mette. My soul dog.

Another day in the goshawk forest. I followed a pair Eurasian jays go about their day. They moved in the trees and seemed to pull snacks out of nowhere – probably food they had cached earlier. Surprisingly, they mimicked goshawk calls. And since they spoke of their devil, it did appear a while later.

A passerby told me he had seen the goshawk pair mating in the morning while the female was eating a squirrel. Huh, they are early...

Finally, I noticed that there were still a few hardy lingonberries on the ground. The berries keep well. The setting sun lit them and the surrounding heathers beautifully.

Took a couple of photos on my walk this morning. Despite all the problems in the world, it's heartening to see nature offer little splashes of colour in what is still the deep of winter in Scotland.

I can't wait for Spring!

Purple heather flowers growing on top of some large stones. There is an out of focus building in the background.
Japanese skimmia plant (or so Google told me). The plant has some small pink-ish red coloured flowers that look like a cluster of very small berries. These are surrounded by a few larger green leaves.

A protest was recently made by the #Manawatu Philosophical Society against the further planting of heather in the #Tongariro National Park and also in connection with the proposed importation of #grouse for liberation in this reserve. In a letter to the New Zealand Institute… they strongly protested against the planting of #heather in the reserve, and offered any possible assistance to prevent a continuance of the practice. The society felt that the Park should be of a purely New Zealand character, and that no #exotics should be introduced into it. They further resented the importation of grouse for liberation in the reserve, or any attempt to make the beauty spot a game preserve for individuals. A reply has now been received from the New Zealand Institute stating that it is in full accord with the views of the society…. Further, it had been decided by the National Park Board, the controlling body, that no further heather seeds or grouse be imported.…
