Not all my illustrated stories are restricted to the demigod tier ($10). Arja's #sapphic kiss of #Amphitrite and #Hera in love's embrace under the sea is free for all to enjoy:

But I use the pledges from the demigod tier to pay for the artwork, so the higher the rates I can pay, the more time my artists can pour into the art ☺️

#Hera asteroid mission tested self-driving technique at Mars

As #ESA ’s Hera planetary defence mission flew past planet #Mars it autonomously locked onto dozens of impact craters and other prominent surface features to track them over time, in a full-scale test of the self-driving technology that the spacecraft will employ to navigate around its target asteroids.

#Hera's Hyperscout H hyperspectral imager took this image, shown here in raw form; the Sun's contribution makes Mars appear blue, but that will be later on removed to reveal Mars' spectral response.

The dark spot is Deimos (Δείμος, pronounced [deemos] in modern Greek)

Having completed its close flyby of Mars, the Hera spacecraft has turned its antenna towards Earth and has been downlinking telemetry, science data and images to ESA’s ESOC mission control centre in Darmstadt, Germany.

The science team is busy processing the images – including astrophysicist, stereoscopist and guitarist Dr. Brian May 🎸

Images will be unveiled during tomorrow's webcast!

Hera’s Mars flyby is happening right now!

… but the images will be released tomorrow, after downloading them from the spacecraft, I presume.

For now, here is a x50 simulation of the flyby we can watch, as if it were the actual thing.
